10. Driver’s License
A driver’s license is a legal document used as proof of identity, age, and address. It can be used
at places like banks or hospitals. In Tamil Nadu, licenses are issued based on the type of
vehicle: non-transport (for personal vehicles) and transport (for commercial vehicles).
Types of Licenses:
● Light Motor Vehicles: For cars and bikes for personal use.
● Citizenship declaration.
● Passport-size photos.
1. Apply online through the Tamil Nadu Government Transport Portal or visit the RTO.
2. Submit Form 4 along with necessary documents (age proof, address proof, medical certificate
if above 50 years).
You can check your license status online on the Tamil Nadu government website by entering
your details (license number, name, etc.) or visit the RTO.
If your license is lost or stolen, apply for a duplicate within 6 months at the RTO where it was
issued. You need to submit documents like a copy of the FIR, application form LLD,
age/address proof, and pay the required fees.
You can renew your license either online or offline by filling out Form 9, submitting documents,
and paying the fees. After verification, your license will be renewed.
● Current license.
● Passport-sized photos.
● Application fee.
To get a license, you must pass a driving test in front of a Motor Vehicle Inspector to prove your
driving skills.
