10 safety rules to follow when working with electrical equipment:

Always Shut Off Power: Make sure to cut off the electricity at the main
breaker or disconnect switch before starting any electrical work.

Use Tools with Insulation: Work with insulated tools to protect yourself
from accidental electric shocks when handling live circuits.

Wear Protective Gear: Always wear rubber gloves, safety goggles, and
non-conductive footwear to safeguard yourself when dealing with electrical
equipment.

Keep Dry: Avoid working with electrical systems in wet conditions or

handling them with damp hands to reduce the risk of electric shock.

Test for Live Circuits: Use a voltage tester to confirm that there is no
electricity running through the wires or circuits before you begin.

Follow Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Use lockout/tagout systems to ensure

the equipment remains de-energized and cannot accidentally be turned on while
you're working.

Maintain Safe Distance: Keep a safe distance from live electrical

components or high-voltage areas to avoid electric shock or arc flash hazards.

Inspect for Damage: Regularly check electrical cords, tools, and equipment
for any signs of damage or wear, replacing any frayed or exposed wires
immediately.

Prevent Overloading: Do not overload sockets or misuse extension cords,

as this can cause overheating, leading to fire hazards.

Work with a Trained mate: Whenever possible, have a partner nearby to

assist in case of emergencies, and make sure you know the location of the
nearest emergency power cutoff.
