Section A: Activities
Activity 1: To measure the resistance and impedance of an inductor with or without an iron
core.
**Aim:** To measure the resistance and impedance of an inductor with and without an iron
core.
**Theory:** Impedance (Z) of an inductor is given by Z = V/I, where V is the voltage across
the inductor and I is the current flowing through it.
**Procedure:**
2. Measure the voltage (V) across the inductor and the current (I) through it using the
voltmeter and ammeter respectively.
4. Insert the iron core into the inductor and repeat steps 2 and 3.
**Observations:** Record the values of V, I, and Z for both cases (with and without the iron
core).
**Result:** Impedance is higher with the iron core due to increased inductance.
**Precautions:** Ensure proper connections to avoid short circuits. Use accurate measuring
instruments.
**Sources of Error:** Errors in measuring voltage and current may affect the result.
Activity 2: To measure resistance, voltage (AC/DC), current (AC), and check the continuity of a
given circuit using a multimeter.
**Aim:** To measure resistance, voltage (AC/DC), current (AC), and check the continuity of
a circuit using a multimeter.
**Theory:** A multimeter can measure various parameters like resistance, voltage, and
current. Continuity is checked by observing a beep sound in continuity mode.
**Procedure:**
2. Connect the multimeter probes to the points in the circuit to measure the desired
parameter.
**Precautions:** Ensure correct mode selection on the multimeter. Avoid touching exposed
wires.
**Sources of Error:** Loose connections or improper mode selection can lead to errors.
