SLP/SY: 2021/2022 Grade 7 /Week 6/ Day 1: (Triangles)

Explanation and Examples

Learning outcomes:
- To define a triangle with its elements.
- To find the missing angle(s) in a triangle using the sum of angles in a triangle is 180o.

Pre-requisite:
Triangle is a closed geometric figure with three sides (Every three non-collinear points
form a triangle).
Examples:

Figure3
Figure1 Figure2
Not triangle (not closed)
Not triangle (4sides) Triangle

Elements of a triangle:
Every triangle has 3 vertices, 3 angles and 3 sides
In the adjacent figure the vertices are: A, B and C
Sides: [AB], [AC] and [BC]
̂C, AĈB and BA
Angles: AB ̂C

This triangle is named as: ABC or BAC or CAB or ……… etc.

Your turn (Activity 1): Fill in the blanks by referring to the given triangle:
Name of this triangles: --------------
3 sides: ---------- ---------- ----------
3 angles: ---------- ---------- ---------
3 vertices: --------- --------- ---------

1
Sum of angles in a triangle:
The sum of angles in any triangle is always 1800

̂C + AĈB + BA
AB ̂ C = 1800

Example:

̂N = 1800 − (700 + 600 )

AP
= 180o – 130o = 500

Your turn (Activity 2): Calculate the missing angle in each figure:

------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------

More examples:

Coded properties: FĈE = 600 and AB

̂M = 1350

AĈB = FĈE = 600 (Vertically opposite angles)

̂C = 1800 − AB
AB ̂M = 1800 − 1350 = 450
̂ C = 1800 − (450 + 600 )
BA
= 1800 − 1050 = 750
