ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It is my privilege to express my gratitude to Mrs. Perna
Barik Chemistry Teacher, DAV Public School, MTPS
(Recognized by CBSE, New Delhi) for inspiration, keen
interest, proper guidance and valuable suggestions for
conducting this project work and preparing the reports
for the same.
My sincere regards to Mr. Rajiv Shaw, Principal of DAV
Public School, MTPS, for providing me with serious
facilities and resources from different corners.
I pay my gratitude to Mr. A Sarkar, Mr. A Jha, Mrs. N
Das, Mr. T Chakraborty, Mrs. D Sarkar, Mr. S Sarkar and
Mr. M Singh (lab asst.) for providing me with necessary
facilities in their laboratories to complete this project
work with grand success.
Requirements
• Burette
• Pipettes
• Titration Flask
• Beaker
• Weight Box
• Fractional Weight
• Sodium Hydroxide
• Hydrochloric Acid
• Methyl Orange
• Phenolphthalein
PROCEDURE
• Prepare 1L of approximately N/10 HCl
solution by diluting 10ml of the
concentrated acid for 1L.
• Similarly, make 1L of approximately N/10
NaOH solution by dissolving 4.0g of
NaOH to prepare 1L of solution.
• Prepare N/10 Na2CO3 solution by
weighing exactly 1.325g of anhydrous
Sodium Carbonate and then dissolving it
in water to prepare exactly 0.25L of the
solution.
• Standardize the HCl solution by titrating
against standard sodium carbonate
solution using methyl orange as
indicator.
• Similarly, standardize the NaOH solution
by titrating it against standardized HCl
solution using Phenolphthalein as
indicator.
• Powder the various samples of antacid
tablet and weight 1g of each.
• Add a specific volume of standardize HCl
to each of the weighed sample and take
it into a conical flask. The acid should be
in slight excess so that it can neutralize
all the alkaline components of the
tablet.
• Add 2 drops of Phenolphthalein and
warm the flask till most of the powder
dissolves. Filter all the insoluble
material.
• Titrate the solution against standardize
NaOH solution till a permanent pinkish
tinge is obtained.
• Repeat this experiment with different
antacids.

2. 9.5 19 9.5
3. 19 28.5 9.5
CONCLUSION
The antacid for which maximum volume of HCl is used for
neutralizing is more effective. Observation in the before
experiment reveals that the most effective among the
commonly used antacids that have been used in the project is
RIFLUX.
