A. Define the elements of the circle (radius and diameter)

B. Understand the formula for the area and perimeter of circle (or circumference)
C. Apply the formula in solving the areas and perimeter of circle

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Area and perimeter of circle (or circumference)

Greetings

Good Morning/ Afternoon class!  Good Morning/ Afternoon Ma’am Ella!

Before you take your seats, please pick the pieces of trash (Students will pick up the pieces of trash under their chairs
under your chairs and check their alignment and check their alignment)

Checking of Attendance

For your attendance, as I call your name I want

you to say your dream job/ career you want to pursue. Is
that clear? Yes, Ma’am

It’s nice to see all of your beautiful faces today. Let’s

make this class productive and inspiring together!

B. Developmental Activities

Review of Past Lesson

Let’s have a quick review about our lesson yesterday.
Who can still remember it?
(student raise hand)

Our lesson yesterday was about the ratio and proportion

That’s right! Yesterday we talked about ratio and

proportion. Very good! its good to hear that you still
remember our previous lesson

C. Motivation

Before we start our discussion, we will be having a game Yes, we are.

named “FIXED ME”. I will group you into two groups
and guess the jumbled letters that I will show to you. The
group who has a highest score will be the winner. Are you 1. CIRCLE

Well done, students! All of your answers are great

The activity we have done today has something to do with

our topic for today. The combined jumbled letters. (circle
and diameter) have a connection to our topic
circumference and area of a circle.

D. Analysis

The circumference and area of the circle is different to

each other, and they have different formulas to be used for
solving some problems involving the circumference and
area of a circle.
Parts of circle

The circumference of a circle is the circumference of any

shape defines the path or the boundary that surrounds the
shape. In other words, the circumference is also called the
perimeter, which helps to identify the length of the outline
of any shape.

Diameter: A line that passes through the center and its

endpoints lie on the circle is called the diameter of a
circle. It is represented by the letter 'd' or 'D'.

Radius: The distance from the center to a point on the

boundary is called the radius of a circle. It is represented
by the letter 'r' or 'R'. Radius plays an important role in the
formula for the area and circumference of a circle, which
we will learn later.

Using the formula of The Circumference (or) perimeter of

circle = 2πR

where,

R is the radius of the circle π is the mathematical constant

with an approximate (up to two decimal points) value of
3.14

Again,

Pi (π) is a special mathematical constant; it is the ratio of

circumference to diameter of any circle.

where C = π D

C is the circumference of the circle

D is the diameter of the circle

For example: If the radius of the circle is 4cm then find its
circumference.

Given: Radius = 6cm

Circumference = 2πr

= 2 x 3.14 x 6

= 37.68 cm
2nd example: If the diameter of the circle is 9cm then find (Students raise their hands)
its circumference.
Given: Diameter = 9cm
For our next example, who wants to solve it?
Circumference = π D

= 3.14 x 9
= 28.26cm

Great Job!

(Students raise their hands)

3rd example: If the radius of the circle is 12cm them find Given: radius =12
the circumference of the circle?
Circumference = 2πR
And for our third problem, anyone who want to answer it?
= 2 x 3.14 x 12

= 39.68cm

Great Job!

Diameter formula: The diameter formula of a circle is

twice its radius. Diameter = 2 × Radius d = 2r or D = 2R

If the diameter of a circle is known, its radius can be

calculated as: r = d/2 or R = D/2

For example: If the radius of a circle is 9m, then what is

the diameter?

Given: R=9m

D= ?

Formula: D = 2R

Solution:

D= 2(9cm)

D=18cm

2nd example: if the diameter is 55cm, then what is the

radius of the circle?

Given: D=55cm

R=?

Formula: R = D/2

Solution:
R = 55/2

R= 27.5cm

The area of a circle is the space occupied by the circle in a

two-dimensional plane. Alternatively, the space occupied
within the boundary/circumference of a circle is called the
area of the circle.

The formula for the area of a circle is A=πr^2

A=1/4πd^2

For example: If the length of the radius of a circle is 18

units. Find the area of the circle.

Solution:

Radius(r) = 18 units(given)

Using the formula for the circle's area, Area of a Circle =

πr^2

Put the values,

A = π18^2

A =π × 324

A = 324π ≈ 1,017.36
(Students raise their hands)
Answer: The area of the circle is 1,017.36 squared units

2nd example: If the length of the radius of a circle is 15 Solution:

units. Find the area of the circle. Radius= 15 units

Who want to solve it? Formula: Area of a Circle =

πr^2

A= π x 15^2
A= π x 225
A=225π ≈ 706.5 units

(Students raise their hands)

Great job! Solution:

Radius= 5cm
3rd example: If the radius of a circle is 5cm, then its area Formula: Area of a Circle =
will be? πr^2

Okay! Who want to solve for our 3rd example? A= π x 5^2

A= π x 25
A==225π ≈ 706.5 units
Always take note that you can find the circumference and
are of a circle if you will identify first the radius and
diameter.

E. Abstraction

Now, lets recall!

 A = πr^2
What is the formula in getting the area of the circle?

That’s correct!
 Diameter
It is a line that passes through the center and its endpoints
lie on the circle?
 C=πD
How about in getting the circumference if the diameter is
given?
 R=d/2
In getting the radius, what formula we need to use?

 D=2r
And how about in getting the diameter?

 C= 2πR

And how about if the radius is given?

Correct!

F. Application

Solve the following.

1. Solution:
1. Find the area of a circle with radius 3cm. Radius=3cm
Formula: A = πr^2
A = π3^2
A = π9
A =9π ≈ 28.26cm

2. Solution:
Diameter= 20cm
2. Find the circumference of a circle with diameter 20cm. Formula: C = π D
C = π 20
C = 3.14 x 20
C= 62.8 cm

3. If the radius of the circle is 7m, then the area will be? 3. Solution
Radius=7m
Formula: A= πr^2
A= π 7^2
A= π 49
A=49 π ≈ 153.86
IV. Evaluation
Area and circumference of circles
You can find the area of circle using the formula A=πr2, where r is the radius of the circle. You
can find the circumference of a circle using the formula c= nd. Where d is the diameter of the
circle.
Calculate the area or circumference of each circle. Use 3.14 for π.

V. Assignment

1. Steven purchases a bowl. The diameter of the bowl is 14cm. What is the circumference of the
bowl?
2. Find the area of the circle, if the radius is 7cm.
3. Find the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 11 millimeters.
4. Find the area of the circle, if the diameter is 18inches.
5. what is the area of a circle with the diameter of 10cm?
