MANILA, Philippines – Ex-mayor Alice Guo, who’s usually firm and composed, snaps during
seventh quad committee hearing on September 27 after House of Representative raised
allegations from a documentary by a self-proclaimed Chinese spy whom she had worked before.
In a recent hearing, PBA Partylist Rep. Margarita Nograles questioned Guo about the potential
benefits that She Zhijiang might gain from naming her. Guo quickly deflected, stating, “I think
it’s better for you to ask him because he was the one who released the video, so he’s the only one
who knows the benefits he could get. Definitely, I’m not a spy!” Guo sought to clarify the
allegations to her.
Nograles then posed a follow-up question, asking why Guo seemed angry. In response, Guo
firmly insisted, “They keep saying that I’m a spy. I love the Philippines, I’m a Filipino, I’m not a
spy!”
Nograles proceeded to ask Guo who Lin Wen Yi was and she answered by stating the fact that
Lin Wen Yi is the partner of his father but she suddenly inserted a discussion about her
citizenship. However, Guo was cut short by Nograles, who said That Guo was leading her stating
how she was defensive and described that her actuations were showing something (off).
Guo suddenly confirms that she never saw the place when asked again by Nograles regarding a
photo of a specific province in China. When Nograles added a side remark about her being
emotional, Guo suddenly replied, “Your honor, I’m emotional because it’s unfair for me to be
called a spy!”
After Guo denied the allegations when asked by Nograles about her hometown, Nograles
contradicted Guo’s denials by showing the evidence of a congratulatory letter written by Guo’s
fellow people in Fujian Province, stating how proud the residents were when she won as mayor
in the Philippines. Nograles also added from the document how the residents had seen Alice Guo
leave the Fujian Province at the end of 2002 and confirmed how Alice Guo was dependent on
Lin Wen Yi regarding her personal documents.
