THE POWER
OF THE
MIND
The brain is the main organ of the nervous system. It controls all the bodily activities
and is responsible for interpreting inputs (called stimuli) from the outside world.
The brain is made up of
billions of neurons that form
circuits and networks, which
control the flow and information
within nervous system.
The brain controls many
different aspects of our lives,
including our intelligence,
creativity, emotions, and
memories.
It is composed of different parts,
each with its own function but
working together as a team.

MAIN PARTS
OF THE BRAIN

FOUR LOBES
FRONTAL LOBE
which is the largest lobe of
the brain, it is responsible for
personality, behavior,
judgement, planning,
problem solving,
intelligence, speech, and
body movement.
PARIETAL LOBE
which is located in the middle
part of the brain, interprets
language and words and aid
visual recognition and spatial
relationships. It also involved in
pain and touch perception of the
body.
OCCIPITAL LOBE
which is located at the back
of the brain, is involve in
vision and movement.
TEMPORAL LOBE
which is found in the side of the brain, is
responsible for short-term memory,
speaking, musical rhythm, and some degree
of smell identification.
LIMBIC SYSTEM
a group of brain structures
that helps in several function,
including emotions, behavior,
motivation, long-term
memory, and
olfaction(smelling).
The
structure of
the Limbic
System
helps in learning, memory,
navigation, and spatial
perception. It receives
information from the
cerebral cortex and is
believed to have part of
Alzheimer’s disease.

well as regulating pain and
in controlling autonomic
motor functions.

movements
and to aid in
balance and
posture.
What is the
importance of
Cerebrum and
Limbic System?
The cerebrum plays an important role
in thinking, whereas the limbic
system has to do with emotions.
Those encounters shape your
reactions and define who you are as a
person with proper and acceptable
mental processes, feelings, and
perceptions.
THE
LEFT
RIGHT
AND BRAIN
THEORY
Roger Wolcott Sperry
According to the American
neuropsychologist, the two
hemispheres of the brain have
distinct abilities or functions.
The muscle in the right side of
the body is controlled by the left
hemisphere, whereas those in the
left side of the body are
controlled by the right
hemisphere.

The left and right brain

theory states each side
has a specific function
and a person can choose
which hemisphere will be
used the most.
LEFT BRAIN RIGHT BRAIN
➢ Logic ➢ Imagination
➢ Sequencing ➢ Holistic thinking
➢ Language ➢ Intuition
➢ Rational thinking ➢ Arts
➢ Mathematics ➢ Rhythm
➢ Facts ➢ Nonverbal cues
➢ Thinking in ➢ Feelings
words visualization
➢ Daydreaming
The two hemispheres of the brain
function are crucial to your
understanding of your personality.
Recognizing the processes of left
and right brain and your dominant
brain help you learn better because
you can adjust your study habits
according to your personality.
MIND
MAPPING
TONY BUZAN
Mind map was first coined by the
English educational consultant Tony Buzan in
early 1980’s.
According to Buzan mind map is a
powerful graphic technique that provides a
universal key to unlock the brain’s potential.

It uses all the brain skills – word,

image, number, logic, rhythm, color, and spatial
awareness – in single, extremely effective way.
Here are some examples of how to use a mind map as a learner.
Taking notes. you can map out notes from a lecture if you
need to remember the important detail.
Brainstorming. If you are doing group work or presenting in
class, it is beneficial to do some brainstorming on your topic.
Presenting Information. A mind map is better in presenting
information instead of paragraphs.
Boosting Creativity. The words, images, and colors that you
use allow you to see information from completely different
angle and perspective.
Planning. Create a plan for your personal or
class events that can be used to create a strategy
using mind maps.
Research Preparation. You can identify various
topics or formula a research problem.
Reviewing a lesson. This enables you to easily
recall or remember details for a test or quiz.
Various studies have shown that mind
mapping has numerous benefits, such as
improving one’s ability to learn meaningfully,
helping in memorization and information
retention, making complex things easier to
understand, and increasing productivity and
creativity (Greene, 2020).
Steps in Mind Mapping
The following are the steps to do mind mapping:
1. Start with the main idea or subject, and write it at the
center of your mind map. You can include an image or
color that suits the said idea or subject.

2. Add branches to your map. You can add the subtopics or

themes that are related to the main idea.
Steps in Mind Mapping
3. Your branches and subtopics/themes should be color
coded. Color coding enables you to categorize, highlight,
analyze, and discover new relationships.

4. You have the option to include images, icons, and other

visual aspects in your mind map, as they may convey far
more information than words or sentences.
A mind map that covers topics linked to
language, logic, arithmetic and reasoning will
suffice for the left-brain dominant individual.
However, the right-brain dominant person is
easily attracted to a mind map that shows
creativity, emotions, colors, and few images.
