Section BSIT 311 Score

Direction: In no less than three (3) sentences, analyze the given scenario and assess the committed
cybercrime offenses by answering the guide questions. (3 items x 10 points)

Scenario:

A 20-year-old Information Technology (IT) graduate Paul Loui Biteng faced charges after the Manila City prosecutor’s
office found probable cause to file charges against him for allegedly hacking into the Commission on Elections
(COMELEC) website. On April 25, 2016, Chief Inquest Prosecutor Atty. Jovencio Senados said there was enough
evidence against Biteng for several violations of the cybercrime prevention law.

On April 20, 2016, Biteng admitted to defacing the COMELEC website last March but denied NBI’s accusation of being
part of a group of hackers leading to the leakage of a large portion of the COMELEC's database, including voters'
personal identity information. The incident is labeled “the biggest private data leak in Philippine history,” exposing the
personal information of 55 million Filipino voters.
