a) ∆DEF ≅ ∆ b) ∆FED ≅ ∆PR c) ∆EDF ≅ ∆RP d) ∆PQR ≅ ∆EFD

2. It is given that Δ ABC ≅ Δ FDE and AB = 5 cm, ∠B = 40° and ∠A = 80°. Then which of the
following is true?

a) DF = 5 b) DF = 5 cm, ∠E = 6 c) DE = 5 cm, ∠E = 6 d) DE = 5 cm, ∠D = 40°

3. All the medians of a triangle are equal in case of a:

a) Scalene triangle b) Right angled triangle c) Equilateral triangle d) Isosceles triangle

4. If in ΔPQR, PQ = PR then:

a) ∠P = ∠R b) ∠P = ∠Q c) ∠Q = ∠R d) None of these

5. In an isosceles triangle, the angle opposite to the base is called:

a) Right angle b) Acute angle c) Obtuse angle d) Vertex angle

6. In ∆ABC, BC = AB and ∠B = 80°. Then ∠A is equal to:

SHORT QUESTIONS
7. In the given figure, AB = AD, AC = AE and ∠BAD = ∠EAC, then prove that BC = DE.

8. In the given figure, equilateral ΔABD and ΔACE are drawn on the sides of a ΔABC. Prove
that CD = BE.

9. Is it possible to construct a triangle with lengths of its sides 4cm, 3cm and 7cm? Give a reason for
your answer.
10. In figure PQ=PR &∠Q=∠R. Prove that Δ PQS ≅ Δ PRT
11. CDE is an equilateral triangle formed on a side CD of a square ABCD Show that Δ ADE≅ Δ BCE.

LONG QUESTIONS

12. Bisectors of the angles B and C of an isosceles triangle with AB=AC intersect each other at O.BO
is produced to a point M. Prove that∠ MOC=∠ABC.

13. Prove that if in 2 triangles 2 angles and the included side of 1 triangle are equal to 2 angles and
the included side of the other triangle, then the 2 triangles are congruent.

14. ABC is an isosceles triangle with AB=AC and D is a point on BC such that AD ⊥BC .To prove that
∠ BAD=∠CAD, a student proceeded as follows:
In triangles ABD and ACD,
AB=AC (given)
∠B=∠C (because AB=AC)
And, ∠ADB=∠ADC
Therefore ∆ABD ≅∆ ACD (AAS)
So, ∠BAD=∠CAD (CPCT)
What is the defect in the above arguments?

15. P is a point on the bisector of ∠ABC. If the line through P, parallel to BA meets BC at Q, proves
that BPQ is an isosceles triangle.

CASE STUDY

17. John recently read a Mathematics experiment. He was keen to perform it on its own. He choosed
a long building whose height he want to know, he placed a mirror at ground. He is standing at some
distance to the building as well as mirror. John height is 5m and the distance of John from mirror is
12m and distance of building from mirror is also 12m and its height 5m.
On the basis of the above information, solve the following questions.

Q 1. Write two congruent triangles formed in the given figure.

Q 2. Find the distance between top of building and mirror.
Q 3. Find the area of ΔAED.

Q4. In the given figures, find the measure of ∠B’A’C’.

18. In a park, there are two triangular flower beds. Flower bed ABC has sides AB = 8 cm, BC = 6 cm,
and CA = 10 cm. Flower bed PQR has sides PQ = 8 cm, QR = 10 cm, and RP = 6 cm.

Q1. Using the given information, can we conclude that flower bed ABC is congruent to flower bed
PQR? Why or why not?

Q2. If angle A = 40° and angle B = 60° in flower bed ABC, what is the measure of angle C?
Q3.In flower bed ABC, a new side AD is added such that AD = 8 cm. Now, can we conclude that
triangle ABD is congruent to triangle PQR? Why or why not?

Q4.Suppose flower bed ABC is shifted to a new location within the park without changing its shape
or size. In this new location, is flower bed ABC congruent to its original position? Why or why not?
