“AWAKENING”

José Rizal, is commonly kwon as the father of Filipino

Nationalism not because he helped established an
independent Philippine state in fact, he specifically
denounced the 1896 Revolution against Spain, but
because he was instrumental in the creation of
conceptualization of “Filipino”.
Awakening encapsulates the profound impact Rizal’s
life and works have had on me. His writings,
particularly Nile Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo,
awaked a deep sense of awareness about the injustices
faced by Filipinos under Spanish colonial rule. His
courage in speaking truth to power, despite the risks,
ignited a flame of patriotism and a desire for social
change within me.

THAT ONE DAY

If given the chance to be a teacher for a day focusing

on José Rizal’s works, it would be a profound
opportunity to explore his literary genius and the
lessons embedded in his writings. The course of that
day would involve engaging students in a thoughtful
exploration of Rizal’s key texts, particularly Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo, while fostering critical
thinking, discussion, and connection to contemporary
issues.

enriched my own sense of identity and purpose.
