21. (i) H2O ( Water) (ii) CO (Carbon monoxide) 2

22. (i) Pancreas act as a gland by secreting pancreatic juice which contains enzymes and 2
help in the digestion
(ii) It secretes insulin which helps in regulating blood sugar levels
23. In four chambered heart, left half is completely separated from right half by septa.
This prevents oxygenated and deoxygenated blood from mixing. This allows a highly
efficient supply of oxygenated blood to all parts of the body.
24. Given that , f = -20cm, ho = 4cm, v = -30cm 2
Using mirror formula, 1/f = 1/v + 1/u
1/u = 1/f – 1/v
1/u = -1/20 – 1/(-30)
1/u = -1/20 + 1/30
1/u = -1/60
u = -60cm
we know that, m = -v/u
m = -(-30)/-60 = -1/2
Also, m = hi / ho
-1/2 = hi / 4
hi = 4 x (-1/2) = -2cm
25. (i) To get equivalent resistance of 13.5Ω, two 9 Ω resistors are first connected in 2
parallel and then their combination is connected in series with the remaining 9 Ω
resistor.

1/Rp = 1/9 + 1/9 = 2/9

Rp = 9/2 = 4.5 Ω
Rs = (9 + 4.5) Ω = 13.5 Ω

(ii) To get the equivalent resistance of 6 Ω, two 9 Ω resistors are first connected in
series and then their combination is connected in parallel with the remaining 9 Ω
resistor.

Rs = 9 Ω + 9 Ω = 18 Ω
1/Rp = 1/18 +1/9 = 3/18
Rp = 18/3 = 6 Ω

OR

The cord of an electric oven is usually made of copper or

aluminium whose resistance is very low so it does not glow.
Whereas, its heating element is made up of alloy which has
very high resistance. So, when current is passed through the
heating element it becomes very hot and glows red.
26. (i) If all the lions are removed, the population of deer will increase exponentially. 2
Thus, deers and other plant-eaters will be present in abundance which will lead to
overgrazing of grass and soil erosion.
(ii) If all the deer are removed, then there will be no sufficient food available to the
lions. Some of the lions will die due to the starvation and their population will
decrease. Since the deer are herbivorous, their absence will increase the grassland
area also.
Section-C
27. (i)This oxides are called basic oxides and solution of these metal oxides in water is
called alkali. Example- NaOH (sodium hydroxide). 1
(ii) This layer is called oxide layer. It makes the metal less reactive and prevents
further oxidation. Due to this layer, the metal cannot get corroded and remains intact. 1
(iii) Some alkali metals can be cut with a knife because they are very soft and have
low densities. Example- Sodium, potassium, lithium etc.
1
28. (i) Test tube ‘A’ will show vigorous reaction 1
(ii) H2 gas is liberated in both the tubes. 1

Mg + H2CO3 → MgCO3 + H2 ↑
29. Procedure: 3
1. Take a potted plant with variegated leaves
2. Keep the plant in a dark room for three days so that all the starch gets used up.
3. Keep the plant in sunlight for about six hours
4. Pluck a leaf from this plant. Mark the green areas in it and trace them on a sheet of
paper.
5. Dip the leaf in boiling water for a few minutes.
6. After this, immerse it in a beaker containing alcohol.
7. Carefully place the beaker in a water-bath and heat till the alcohol begins to boil.
8. Now dip the leaf in a dilute solution of iodine for a few minutes.
9. Take out the leaf and rinse off the iodine solution.
10. Green parts of the leaf have turned blue-black indicate that green parts possess
chlorophyll which carry out photosynthesis and produce starch.
30. (i) Tall (ii) 3:1 1,1
(iii) Dwarf , because it is recessive trait . 1
31. (i) He is suffering from myopia because the focal length required for the lens is 1
negative.
(ii) Myopia is corrected by using a concave lens of suitable power. 1
(iii) Myopia arises due to : (a) excessive curvature of the eye lens (b) elongation of 1
the eyeball
32. (i) The resistors are connected in series to obtain minimum current.
Given, R1 = 10Ω, R2 = 15Ω, V= 12, I =?
Resultant, R = R1 +R2 + 10 + 15 = 25 Ω 1
According to ohm’s law, V= IR 1
I = V/R = 12/25 = 0.48A 1

(ii) The resistors are connected in parallel to obtain maximum current.

Given, R1 = 10Ω, R2 = 15Ω, V= 12, I =?
1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2
1/R = 1/10 + 1/15
= (3+2)/30 = 5/30
1/R = 1/6
R = 6Ω

(iii) According to ohm’s law, V = IR

I = V/R = 12/6 = 2A
33. (i)Magnetic field lines through and around a current carrying circular loop: 1

1
(ii)Right hand thumb rule is used to find the direction of magnetic field inside and
around a current carrying circular loop.
It states that if a current carrying conductor is held in the right hand in such a way
that thumb indicates the direction of current, then the curled finger indicates the
direction of magnetic field lines around conductor.
1
(iii) The direction of the field lines will also be reversed

c) Vas deferens : The sperms are carried by a long tube called vas deferens to seminal
vesicles
d) Urethra : It forms a common passage for both the sperms and urine
(ii) Testes are located outside the abdominal cavity in scrotum because sperm 1
formation requires a lower temperature than the normal body temperature.
(iii) The sperms have a long tail that helps them to move towards the female germ 1
cell. 1
(iv) The genetic constitution of a sperm is XY
36. Given, R1 = 20Ω, R2 = 4Ω and V = 6V
