Group 18: Climate Change

Introduction to Climate Change

What is Earth Atmosphere?

- The earth atmosphere is a layer of gases around the Earth. It protects the earth surface from the
sun’s harmful radiation and contains the oxygen we breathe. The atmosphere are made of
nitrogen and oxygen and some other gases includes carbon dioxide, methane and etc.

What is Global Warming?

- Global warming, refers to the extreme heat that rises in the Earth surface. Thus results from the
increasing concentration of (CO2) carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that trap heat in
the earth’s atmosphere. The more carbon dioxide releases in the atmosphere the more heat
trapped and the hotter the Earth becomes. This process is known as “global warming” the main
cause of what today we call CLIMATE CHANGE.

What is Climate Change?

- Climate Change, refers to a shift in an average weather conditions, including measures such as
temperature, humidity, rainfall, cloudiness and wind patterns- and changes in the frequency or
severity of these conditions.

The Causes of Climate Change:

Generating Power
-Burning fossil fuels for electricity emits greenhouse gases, though renewable energy sources
emit less.
Manufacturing Goods
-Factories emit gases by burning Fossil fuels and using raw materials like plastics.
Deforestation
-Cutting trees releases stored carbon and reduces COs absorption worsening emissions.
Using Transportation
-Fossil fuel powered vehicle es emit significant greenhouse gases like CO2
Producing Food
- Agriculture generates methane, CO2, and nitrous oxide from fertilizers, livestock, and
equipment
Powering Building
-Building emit CO2 by using fossil fuels for heating, cooling, and lighting.
Over consumption
-Personal consumption habits significantly contribute to emissions, with wealthier populations
emitting more:

EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Hotter Temperatures
As greenhouse gas concentration rise, so does the global surface temperature.
Since the 1980s, each decade has been warmer than the previous one.
Severe Storms
Warmer oceans fuel intense storm, causing destruction and economic losses.
Increased Droughts
Climate change reduces water availability, threatening crops and ecosystems.
Rising Oceans
Melting ice and warming oceans cause sea levels to rise, threatening coasts.
Loss of Species
Climate change disrupts ecosystem, risking extinction for many species.
Food Insecurity
-Extreme weather and ocean changes threaten global food supplies.
Health Risk
Climate impacts air, quality disease spread, and food security, harming public health.
Poverty and Displacement
Climate events displace millions annually, worsening poverty
