LESSON 1
LESSON 1
TOPIC: FRIENDSHIP*
*Friendship (n.): the state of being friends
MY BEST FRIEND
I believe that friends play an important role in promoting our mental health and
boosting our happiness. The way they treat us, believe and support us can probably help
us become a better version of ourselves. I have met a lot of interesting people but I think
Phuong is one of the most important people to me.
We first met on our first day at secondary school. Actually, we didn’t talk to each
other because we were shy and felt a little bit tired due to our school activities on that
day. However, I do remember my first impression of her. She has sleek and shoulder
length hair with a radiant complexion and her glasses made her look like a bookworm.
Her appearance made me think that she is so smart and talented.
In addition, I would say that we have so much in common. We always spend our
spare time engrossed in a book or movie. She is also the go-to person when I need a
piece of advice. Phuong is passionate, independent and reasonable. Once she knows
what she wants, there’s no way to stop her from achieving it. After being friends for
years, I learned from Phuong the way to study effectively and to think carefully before
making conclusions. When I went to highschool, I was painfully shy and I always
bottled up my emotions. However, with her support and encouragement, now I have
thicker skin to stop worrying what other people think of me and I’m able to come out of
my shell.
As for why I like her, I would say that I feel so comfortable confiding my secrets
to her. I trust her with pretty much everything since we have been friends for almost 10
years. She makes me a better person and I’m so grateful for that.
