Internship Report at Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice

Introduction:

This report provides a detailed account of my internship at the Prayas Institute Juvenile
Justice, an organization committed to supporting children, youth, the homeless, women,
and others in need of care and protection. The objective of this report is to present an
in-depth reflection on my internship, including the specific tasks I undertook, the skills I
developed, and the overall impact of my contributions during the internship period.

Throughout the internship, I was exposed to multiple facets of NGO operations, including
project implementation, community engagement, research, and communication.
Additionally, this report will reflect on how the internship experience aligned with my
academic background and professional aspirations, highlighting the growth and insights
gained during this enriching period.

Weekly Work:

Week 1:

● Gained understanding of the Child Protection Policy (CPP), which ensures the
safety and well-being of children, preventing abuse and neglect.
● Participated in a campaign across railway stations, districts, and Prayas centers to
raise awareness about the harmful effects of child marriage. (Bal Vivah Mukt
Bharat)
● Studied the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, which
protects children from sexual abuse and ensures child-friendly legal procedures
and explored said procedures, designed to reduce trauma for child victims during
legal proceedings.
● Learned about the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, focusing
on rehabilitation and care for children in conflict with the law.
● Reviewed key judgments and laws that protect children’s rights and ensure their
safety and well-being.

Week 2:
● Studied Section 3 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and its alignment with the
UNCRC, focusing on children’s welfare and protection. Also studied the evolution
of JJ Act and how it was mapped out.
● Conducted a survey on GB Road, Delhi with commercial sex workers to understand
their lives, families, and income, gaining insights into marginalized communities.
● Engaged with children at Prayas through activities and worksheets to support
their education and development.

Week 3:

● Conducted a survey and interacted with commercial sex workers, learning about
their lives, families, and social conditions.
● Conducted activities and worksheets with children to support their development.
● Read articles and legal judgments related to children and women’s issues to
deepen my understanding.

Week 4:

● Studied the Child Trafficking Act and the Bonded Labour Act in India, focusing on
their provisions for protecting vulnerable individuals.
● Read articles and judgments related to children and women’s rights, enhancing my
knowledge of current issues.
● Attended an SDM meeting to discuss the rescue of a girl working as a bonded
labour maid.
● Logged in Child Welfare Committee orders/FIR’s in the official government reports
● Reviewed and summarized various legal cases related to child and women’s issues.
