1. Projectile Motion:
A ball is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 20 m/s from the top of a building 25 m
above the ground.
(a) Find the maximum height the ball will rise.
(b) Calculate the time taken for the ball to hit the ground.
(Take g=10 m/s2 g = 10 \, \text{m/s}^2.)

2. Average Speed Calculation:


A man walks 2.5 km to a market at 5 km/h. Finding the market closed, he returns home at
7.5 km/h. Calculate his average speed for the entire journey over 40 minutes.

3. Mean Speed of a Car:


A car travels:

o The first third of a distance at 10 km/h,

o The second third at 20 km/h,

o The last third at 60 km/h.


Find the mean speed over the entire distance.

4. Retardation of a Bullet:
A bullet traveling at 150 m/s penetrates a tree to a depth of 3.5 cm before stopping.
(a) Calculate the magnitude of its retardation.
(b) Find the time it takes for the bullet to stop.

5. Free Fall from an Airplane:


A food packet is dropped from an airplane moving at 360 km/h horizontally from a height of
500 m.
(a) Calculate the time of descent.
(b) Determine the horizontal distance traveled before hitting the ground.

6. Force and Displacement Vector:


Find the angle between the force vector F⃗=3i^+4j^+3k^\vec{F} = 3\hat{i} + 4\hat{j} +
3\hat{k} and displacement vector d⃗=5i^+4j^+3k^\vec{d} = 5\hat{i} + 4\hat{j} + 3\hat{k}.
Also, find the projection of F⃗\vec{F} on d⃗\vec{d}.

7. Work Done on a Raindrop:


A raindrop of mass 1.00 g1.00 \, \text{g} falls from a height of 1.00 km under gravity and hits
the ground with a speed of 50.0 m/s.
(a) Calculate the work done by gravitational force.
(b) Find the work done by the resistive force.

8. Emergent Speed of a Bullet:
A bullet of mass 50 g is fired at 200 m/s into plywood (2 cm thick), emerging with 10% of its
initial kinetic energy. Find the emergent speed.

9. Power of a Machine Gun:


A machine gun fires 360 bullets per minute, each with a velocity of 600 m/s and a mass of 5
g. Calculate the power of the machine gun.

10. Power of a Pump:


A pump lifts 600 kg of water per minute from a well 25 m deep and ejects it at 50 m/s.
Calculate the required power.

11. Center of Mass of a Triangle:


Three particles of masses 100 g, 150 g, and 200 g are at the vertices of an equilateral triangle
with each side 0.5 m. Find the center of mass.

12. Scalar and Vector Products:


Find the scalar and vector products of A⃗=3i^+4j^+5k^\vec{A} = 3\hat{i} + 4\hat{j} + 5\hat{k}
and B⃗=2i^+j^+3k^\vec{B} = 2\hat{i} + \hat{j} + 3\hat{k}.

13. Torque Calculation:

position.

18. Change in Length of a Pendulum:


Calculate the change in length of a 1 m pendulum when its time period changes from 2 s to
1.5 s.
19. Pendulum on the Moon:
The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 1.7 m/s21.7 \, \text{m/s}^2. Find the time
period of a pendulum on the moon if its time period on Earth is 3.5 s.

20. Molar Heat Capacities:

21. Heat Transfer:


How much steam at 100∘ C100^\circ \, \text{C} must be passed into 100 g of water at
20∘ C20^\circ \, \text{C} to raise its temperature by 5∘ C5^\circ \, \text{C}?
(Latent heat of steam = 540 cal/g, specific heat of water = 1 cal/g°C)

22. Efficiency of a Steam Engine:


A steam engine delivers 5.4×108 J5.4 \times 10^8 \, \text{J} of work per minute and absorbs
3.6×109 J3.6 \times 10^9 \, \text{J} of heat from its boiler per minute.
(a) Calculate the efficiency of the engine.
(b) Find the heat wasted per minute.

23. Refrigerator COP:


A refrigerator is set to maintain food at 9∘ C9^\circ \, \text{C} while the room temperature is
36∘ C36^\circ \, \text{C}. Calculate the coefficient of performance (COP).
