Research Title: E-Cigarretes and Academic Productivity Basis on E-Cigarette Awareness Program
Chapter III: Research Design
This chapter presents the research design utilized in this study. It includes in the detail the
research method used, the respondents, locale of the study, data gathering procedure, instrumentation,
and statistical treatment of data.
Research Method
The study utilized the descriptive method of research in order to establish the influence of E-
cigarettes to the Academic Productivity as perceived by those senior highschool students who are using
from First City Providential College. A qualitative approach specifically described what concepts and
theories exist regarding such variables that could serve as a basis for other research projects with
different research designs in the future.
Locale of the Study
This study was conducted remotely under First City Providential College. The stated location was
determined due to the availability of the target respondents. Furthermore, it is the most accessible
location as the researcher is a student of the said institution under distance education curriculum and
the students of the said institution are the primary population targeted by the research problem.
Respondents of the Study
The sample consisted of of the Senior High School department.
In terms of the participants’ number per grade level, the researcher sought (insert number of
samples per grade level). In terms of the samples’ size per strand/section, the researcher sought (insert
number of samples per strand/section). All in all, there were a total of (insert chosen sample
size/number of respondents) respondents whose size was determined through the use of Slovin’s
Formula (n= N/1+Ne2) where n=sample size, N=total population, and e=margin of error. The participants
were individually selected through probability sampling specifically, systematic sampling/systematic
stratified sampling.

Instrumentation
There was/were one/two set/s of pre-made questionnaire/s utilized in the data collection.
For assessing/measuring/determining the level of E-cigarettes among the respondents, the
study used the survey questionaires which included 10 items.
The survey questionaires was developed/published by (Al-Sawalha et al., 2021). It
covers/measures/determines the factors that may influence their decision to start using E-cigarettes and
how does it affect their academic productivity.
For assessing/measuring/determining the level of Academic Productivity among the samples,
the study used the survey questionaire which included 10 items/ the general average from the first
semester of school year 2023-2024 of the participants.
The use of E-Cigarette was developed/published by (Al-Sawalha et al., 2021). It
covers/measures/determines factors that may influence their decision to start using E-cigarettes and
how does it affect their academic productivity.
Instrumentation (For Qualitative Study with Two Variables Only)
There was one set of questionnaire utilized in the data collection.
For determining the condition of the use of E-cigarettes as perceived by the samples, the study
asked 1 question.
Meanwhile, for discovering the status of Academic Productivity as viewed by the participants,
the study asked 2 questions.
Lastly, for investigating the influence of the use of E-cigarettes on the Academic Productivity as
perceived by the respondents, the study asked 3 questions.

Data Gathering Procedure

The conduct of the research was approved by the Senior High School research department
which followed this data gathering procedure.
Through an online consent form, the researcher, with the help of his/her research adviser,
sought the consent of each student from the target population on whether they are willing or not to
participate on the data collection to be conducted for this study. Those who responded ‘Yes’ were and
asked of their contact details and preferred schedule for the data gathering and included to the official
sampling frame and procedures. Meanwhile, those who responded ‘No’ were disregarded from the list
for sampling procedures.
Upon its finalization, the data gathering instrument, an interview questionnaire, was converted
into Google Forms for easy administration and collection. The instrument, together with the schedule of
online interview, was then cascaded to each of the target respondents. Due to restrictions brought by
distance learning setup, the researcher relied heavily on online communication with the target
participants for the accomplishment of the questionnaire and the conduct of the interview.
When the target number of responses was achieved, the researcher combined and consolidated
the raw data for analysis and interpretation.

Statistical Treatment of Data
Since all gathered data for this qualitative study were descriptive, the data were gathered,
tallied, and tabulated using thematic analysis wherein, all data that fall under the same category were
grouped to determine the attainment of each of the three Statements of the Problem.
The tabulated data were analyzed and interpreted based on which category had the highest
number of similar or related responses. Meanwhile, frequency, percentage, and mode were still utilized
but only to analyze the gathered data for the profiling of the respondents.
