Copywriting Ad Tips You MUST Do
To Covert like Crazy!

#1 - Focus On The First 5 Seconds


(Create an Unskippable Hook!)

Listen, just as in real life, with YouTube ads, you only have
a few precious seconds to make that vital connection.

In those 5 seconds (THE HOOK) you need to apply as


many of these tips below:

State clearly what this video is for and the possible


solution. What is the prospect truly looking for and how
to do it?
Prove your reputation. Why should they listen to you?
Relate and build instant rapport. You must connect with
the prospect – The more you relate the smarter and more
trustable you are to the prospect.
Teach them something amazing that they will wanna
show their friends. Magic trick effect.

Be counterintuitive and use analogies, props, and even


special physical abilities to help the prospect see a
solution in a way that they have never seen or been
presented before.

Avoid making hooks that are too obnoxious and too


"far out" to get attention, unless you can fully back it
up with your copy logic. Crazy hooks will get views, but if
the body copy does not match up, you see little to no
conversions, and wasted ad spend.

Beyond all of that, the most important part is to provide


real content that they can easily take action on even
without buying.

Remember, people, go to YouTube to learn and to get


educated while being entertained. Give them real content
that motivates and inspires them. Make them feel as if
they are just one simple move away from reaching their
goal... and that one move is to click the button below.

Hook Logic:

My goal for this hook was to debunk before and after


photos. Since everyone knows photos are often
photoshopped, I wanted to create a hook that shows our
talent was real and 100% legit!

We wanted to prove Thomas was truly overweight and


that you should only listen to trainers who have
experienced what the prospect has experienced. (Since
most trainers have probably been in shape their whole
lives.) This gave 2 winning points: relatability and rapport.

To get attention:

I had arrows drawn on to Thomas pointing at his old


stretch marks, and I immediately engaged the prospect by
asking if they knew why there were arrows on his body.

Then we did a close-up to reveal why... to prove that his


stretch marks were real, and what we are teaching was also
real.

And in the first 8-seconds, we hooked them:

As you can see, having a powerful and engaging hook can


make or break your ad.

BUT, creating these Unskippable Hook ideas can be very


difficult. That is why only the elite commercial copywriters
make the big bucks.

However, there is an easy way to come up with these


unskippable hooks on your own if you know what to look
for, along with knowing the unique brainstorming process
that I follow. I will be giving ALL of this away and MORE in

#2 - Role Play and Physically


Act Out Your Hook & Scripts.

Coming from a face-to-face sales background, I would


always practice new closing sales pitches, role play
rebuttals, and objections with my friends and colleagues.
This is a practice that I’ve carried over when writing new
hooks and sales scripts, and I truly believe it is something
that sets me apart from other copywriters.

By reading out loud and physically acting out the hook, not
only can you feel and experience it, your role-play partner
should be able to give you an honest response. They also
can offer a different perspective of what the client will be
thinking and feeling. These are all things that you must
consider and possibly apply to make your hook and ad
copy relatable to more people.

I suggest finding a role-playing partner who would actually


fit the avatar and could benefit from your product. This
way their reaction is as real as it can get.

It Is also best practice to role-play your script with an


experienced salesperson, to get feedback, in order to see
their “live reactions” to your unique selling points. Plus they
can provide even more valuable sales tips.

Lastly, while role-playing, you often spark newer and even


more interesting hooks that you would never have
thought of on your own or just reading aloud to yourself.

Now, if you don’t have a role play partner, it is okay to role


play to yourself in front of the mirror or record yourself to
see your own reactions. It is better than not role-playing at
all.

Video ads are not emails or other types of copy. Video ads
are 3 dimensions of copy, and you must see it live to truly
know how the copy will make the prospect feel.

#3 - Apply My “Mirror Message” Technique


AKA “Message From Above”

Listen, many people with deep emotional pain will never


tell you the truth about why they need to see results.

My “Mirror Message" technique is designed to help the


copywriter write towards the audience’s true untold
feelings.

Oftentimes, copywriters and offer owners will do surveys


and simple quizzes to see the prospect’s pain points and
fears. This way they can properly use those pain points
against them and sell them.

But sadly, most people will lie about why they need
results. In turn, giving this gives you false pain points to
draw from.

Let me explain:

In the fitness industry, it’s seldom that an overweight


person will be honest and tell you directly that they want
results purely for looks and for sexual attention.

Why? Because it’s embarrassing to tell the real truth.

Instead, they’ll stay modest and claim they are looking to


get in shape purely for health reasons.

However, that’s not truly what they want… that’s only what
they say.

And many copywriters make the mistake of believing in


the buyer. Now there’s an old saying, “Buyers are Liars.”

And if we write an ad or sales letter that targets what they


say and not what they truly feel deep inside, our ad and/or
offer may not convert.

That’s why real sales professionals dig deep and discover


more of the painful truth.

The goal here is to deep dive into the audience’s true ego
and untold feelings. Literally, become that person, and
find out what they’re telling themselves in the mirror every
morning when no one is around.

Find the dark, depressing, and hopeless message of giving


up, all the way to the egotistic, positive, and even
revengeful things they will do once they reach that goal.

And we need to write about THAT message.

The shocking part to why this approach works so well is


because when the prospect hears this message “that
they’ve never told anyone before” in your video ad, they’ll
automatically start to think this is a message from above.

In addition, you are speaking to the real them on the


inside, and not the fake character that they are trying to
protect themselves with. In fact, sometimes, they have lied
to themselves for so long, that your ad will even re-reveal
their true, deep feelings. A good ad will become the
mirrored message or their real truth.

#4 - Always Start Off with Long-Form Ad Copy and


apply my attention-grabbing "Wave Effect Technique”

Some people think that no one is going to watch your


entire commercial if it’s too long. Wrong!

The truth is that they will watch it… if the copy is good, and
if you are applying the Wave Effect Technique which I’ll tell
you more about...

On top of that, it’s really only the non-buyers who won’t


watch it entirely.

You see, a true buyer who is looking to change their life or


improve their business with your product will actually
watch hours and hours of videos if you provide it for them.

And if you don't provide just enough content, they will look
for other videos and click off.

Imagine you are looking to buy a new car, would you


watch hours of videos and even spend days doing the
research before buying?

YES! You will if it’s important to you. Especially if the


product will change your life or business physically!

Heck, I’ve watched 6 different YouTube videos before


deciding on buying a pair of specific running shoes.

So the key is to provide enough content, and write for the


buyers and not the non-buyers who may drop off early or
auto skip your ad.

Now, the second reason I suggest writing long-format


video ads is that you can always cut them down post-
production.

In fact, I've successfully cut two different ads from one


long original ad, and it worked out perfectly. However, you
would need to do some creative post-planning and
adjustments.

Beyond that, this also can save you money and prevent re-
shoots. There have been many times that during the video
editing revision phase, I ended up feeling like the video is
missing something or just needed to give a bit more info
to explain a subject more clearly.

And if I would have written the script out with more


content, I wouldn’t have to pay more for a reshoot. Again,
it’s much more cost-efficient and easier to cut out instead
of having to reshoot and add on.

*Pro Tip: The Wave Effect Technique

Apply my attention-grabbing wave effect similar to a mini


headline/hook to start each new copy section.

According to a study by Microsoft, the average human


being now has an attention span of eight seconds.

This means that you will have to have something


interesting to recapture their attention every 8-10 seconds
and especially when transitioning to the next idea/content
in the sales copy.

Now just like an attention grabbing hook that keeps you


engaged pass the first 5 seconds of the ad, in the next 10
or so seconds you will need to come up with another
interesting point to re-spark the viewers attention.

#5 - Apply these 4 types of “Call to Actions”


Throughout your video. (Check out Template)

Using the wave-effect above is important, because this is


an opportunity to be applying 4 types of buyer CTAs (Call-
To-Actions) throughout the video.

After every CTA, you have another opportunity to put


another new "mini hook" in.

And this Attention Grabbing Wave Effect needs to be


considered throughout the copy, even at the end prior to
the end card.


#1 IMPULSIVE (HYPE SELLING) “CALL TO ACTION”

SECTION 1: The Hook

Your hook is the most vital part: Spend the majority of


your time on this section.
The hook needs to be so attention-grabbing that it is
going to draw them away from the original video they
had their mind set on watching.

CTA #1 - IMPULSIVE (HYPE SELLING)

SECTION 2: BODY COPY

**Pro Tip: #1: Create and Test different variations by


rearranging the order of Logical and Emotional Close
Sections or cutting one out.

**Pro Tip: #2: Focus on one main subject. (Hone into the
one thing). If your copy logic is too complex and difficult to
understand, prospects WILL NOT do it. And remember,
the average person only reads at a 6-7th grade reading
level. So keep it simple!

CTA #2: LOGIC BUYER CTA

SECTION 3: EMOTIONAL CLOSING

Apply “Wave Effect” Hook:


Introduce the new logic with an interesting fact,
metaphor, question, shocking testimonial…etc.

CTA #3: EMOTIONAL BUYER CTA

SECTION 4: EXTRA VALUE

To improve clicks, tell the customer what else they can


learn beyond what you’ve covered in the video.

**ProTip:
The rule on Ads is to focus on targeted subjects (the one
thing that's causing the issue).

You do this to keep the prospect honed in and not be


distracted or confused with multiple solutions to choose
from.

However, your product or service provides additional


value that is not mentioned in the ad. So quickly let them
know that on top of what we’ve talked about, tell them
what additional unique things they will learn.

CTA #4: END CARD (Extra Value CTA)
