Introduction:
Purpose of the visit:
The purpose of this site visit was to observe and analyze the structural construction, architectural
design, and specifications of Landmark Trade Centre, a high-rise mixed-use township located in Calicut.
The visit aimed to understand the project's contribution to modern urban architecture and assess its
relevance to high-rise building studies.
Site Description:
The residential section of the building is now in use, while construction work continues on the rest of
the site.
Purpose:
Observations:
Structural Construction
• The building employs modern high-rise construction techniques, focusing on durability and
safety.
• Use of reinforced concrete and steel framework to ensure structural stability and resistance to
seismic activities.
• Construction of basement levels for parking and utility spaces, optimizing the use of available
land.
• The architectural design promotes a vertical mixed-use concept, combining commercial spaces
at lower levels with residential apartments above.
• The building’s façade incorporates energy-efficient materials and modern aesthetics,
emphasizing both form and function.
• Ample natural lighting and ventilation have been prioritized through large windows and open-
plan designs.
• The use of green spaces within the township reflects a commitment to sustainability, enhancing
the overall living environment.
• Discussions with the on-site staff revealed the use of smart building technologies, including
energy management systems and water conservation mechanisms, making the building
environmentally friendly.
Experience:
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the scale of the project and the complexity of its construction.
Walking through the site provided a firsthand look at the intricate processes involved in high-rise
building development, from the structural framework to the architectural details. The residential
section, now operational, offered a glimpse into the functionality and comfort provided to its occupants,
while the ongoing construction areas revealed the careful coordination of various trades and
technologies.
Interacting with the on-site staff gave deeper insight into the planning, challenges, and innovations
behind the project. The combination of modern construction techniques and sustainable design features
was particularly impressive. Overall, the visit offered a comprehensive understanding of the project's
ambition, progress, and its potential impact on the urban landscape.
Findings:
1. Structural Strengths
• Incorporation of advanced construction materials and techniques reduces the
building’s carbon footprint, enhancing its sustainability profile.
2. Architectural Highlights
• The mixed-use design effectively merges residential and commercial functions,
providing convenience to both residents and businesses.
• The strategic location adds significant value, offering ease of access to public transport
and essential amenities, making it a prime location for professionals and families alike.
Conclusions
The site visit to the Landmark Trade Centre offered a valuable perspective on the intricacies of high-rise
construction and modern urban design. The project's commitment to blending residential and
commercial spaces within a sustainable, well-connected township was evident. The operational
residential section demonstrated the project's potential for providing a comfortable and efficient living
environment, while the ongoing construction reflected the precision and coordination required to
complete such a large-scale development.
