Instructions for the Final Report

Front Matter

1. Inside Cover Page mentioning


• Title of Dissertation
• Name of student
• Roll No.
• Year and Section
• Date of submission
• Word Count
• Name of Guide
• Name of Coordinator
2. Declaration by candidate (to be signed by candidate before the submission)
3. Certificate (to be signed by guide and coordinator)

5. Abstract (max. 250-300 words, written as a single paragraph, with 3-5 keywords)

7. List of Figures
8. List of Tables
9. List of Abbreviations
10. Glossary (if any)

Chapters
Naming of the chapters should be done as 2, 2.2, 2.2.1….with a consistent formatting- indenting
and font- style throughout the report.

I. Introduction (1000 words approx.)


A brief background establishing the need of the study- establishing it in the
larger context; a very brief of the literature summarizing the major highlights of
the literature and the research gap, RQ(s), Aim, objectives, scope, limitations,
research methodology, Methodology chart specific to your study and not very
generic.

II. Literature Review (3000 words approx.)


You may name this chapter as per the concepts, theories or past works you
are exploring; do not create subsections based on individual publications,
rather subsections must be thematic to create a narrative; conclude this
chapter by summarizing the gaps in the existing body of knowledge and hence
the focus of your study; you should include the literature map and argument
map, done as a class exercise, in this chapter as figures.

III. Research Framework/ Design (1200-1500 words approx.)


Justify the empirical or primary component of your study, selection of other
case studies; define the scope of your investigation with reasons; discuss your
research methods, data collection techniques, sampling process; analytical
framework or the approach adopted to analyze the data.
IV. Case Studies/ Analysis & Findings (3000- 3500 words approx.)
You may name this chapter(s) as per the aspect of the study you are exploring
in the case studies; discuss the case studies especially the primary
component, its data collection, analysis and findings.

V. Conclusions (1200-1500 words approx.)


A summary of the research intent, objective wise summary of the research
methodology and the outcomes; establish a link between the research
question and the final analysis of your study; discuss the general or broader
applicability of the findings as the contribution of your study to the existing
body of knowledge, way forward/ future research area.
The dissertation conclusions are not meant to provide policies, design
guidelines or recommendations for actions, or to solve a problem. Its role is to
explain the phenomena or the aspect that you have researched along with
your findings.

VI. References (not included in the word count)


Provide an alphabetical list ordered by the surnames of authors in the Harvard
referencing style. Use 11 point, single spaced. i.e., the font size is smaller than
your main text. DO NOT MAKE A NUMBERED LIST
VII. Appendix/ Appendices (not included in the word count)
Annexures are essential component of the study and provide information on
the components of your primary study, such as survey questionnaire, complete
list of responses, on site monitored data, transcript of interviews etc. They are
provided separately so as to not break the narrative flow of the main text of
your dissertation.

VIII. Plagiarism Report (similarity of 10% is acceptable)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Format for Report:
A-4 size paper portrait;
1”margins all round;
Font: Arial /Times New Roman or equivalent;
font size: 12 pt;
line spacing: one and half.

Do not make any changes to the language of the declaration and certificate. The
declaration is signed by the student and certificate by guide and coordinator.

The word count (7,500-10,000 words) applies to the main body of text and does not
include cover page, declaration, certificate, acknowledgements, abstract, table of
contents, references, bibliography, appendix,plagiarism report.

Students are advised do a thorough spell check and grammar check before submitting
the final report. You may use grammarly.com or similar grammar check to check your
language.

All figures/ tables/graphics/pictures are to be numbered, captioned, and source to be


mentioned. While providing URL as a source of an image, remove the hyperlinks and
also write the ‘retrieved/accessed on’ date.
There should not be any unformatted pages in the report with just images or charts or
tables. They must be accompanied by a summary in the paragraph text nearby with a
figure callout. While formatting, images and figures must be “in-line” or “square”
wrapped with the text. Resize the image or figure so that the entire page is used and
half of it is not blank.

Extra information like questionnaires etc. to be included in the Appendix.

All resource persons/ organizations to be duly acknowledged in the acknowledgements.

Conclusion chapter should be in essay form- not in points, charts, tables etc. In fact,
nowhere in the dissertation must information appear as bullet points (you’re NOT doing a
PowerPoint presentation); all information should be perfectly formed, grammatically
correct sentence
