IMAGES ONLINE
There are several things to consider in choosing the best places to upload or share videos and
images. The following are some of them.
Storage space- Does the photo sharing site have enough storage space for your photo
uploads?
Cost of storage – Does the photo sharing site charge you for storage or maintenance?
Quality- When uploading photos, qualities must not be sacrificed, high resolution should
be preserved and not compressed.
Ease of use- Is the uploading process quick and easy? Does the site have editing features?
Ease of Access- Is it easy finding uploaded photos by date, tags, and other means without
any barrier?
Share ability- Can photos be easily shared to other sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter?
Printability- Are you able to print or download photos effortlessly?
Privacy- Is it must be fully controlled by the user and should be password protected?
To date, we all know that two of the most popular social networking sites are Facebook and
Instagram. These two sites boast of features that highlight their photo sharing capabilities among
others. These being so, they are also considered as photo sharing sites. To give you an overview
of different existing photo sharing sites, the proceeding section lists the different sites and their
features:
500PX
It is a popular social network for photographers looking to share their best photos. It offers an
image-focused design that puts your photos front and center, providing a clean and elegant way to
display your best images. Users can upload 20 photos privately per week for free membership.
According to Cambridge Dictionary (2016), Flickr “is a website that allows users to upload photos
and videos.” It is the oldest and most widely known photo sharing social networking site to date.
It offers 1TB of storage for free (which can hold from 500,000 to 2 million photos) with no limit
on picture resolution. Users can also upload 1080p high-definition video clips, with playback up
to three minutes long. It is a free hosting site which has editing tools to make your picture as perfect
looking as you want.
You can configure your privacy settings such as if you want to share your photos to a selected
audience only. Flickr also offers a great selection tools, extensive tagging features and support for
both viewing and downloading photos at a variety of resolutions (including the original size).
PHOTOBUCKET
This site is best for uploading and storing photos in their original sizes, editing them, organizing
them, hosting animated GIFs and printing photos on products. The free version of Photobucket
offers 2GB of space – enough for many thousands of photos, though it comes with ads. It has a
generous collection of editing tools offered through a simple, easy-to-use interface such as red-eye
removal, sharpening, and cropping.
SHUTTERFLY
It offers a creative range of photo gifts, including metal prints, wooden wall art, and battery cases
for smartphones. There is also a usual lineup of personalized stationary, crockery, blankets, and
cushions, as well as kiddy-oriented products like lunch bags, puzzles, and books customized with
your little one’s face
throughout their pages. It has
free unlimited storage for
albums which are sets as
private by default. Share sites
though are limited to their
members.
GOOGLE+
Google rolled many of the features of its Picasa image-editing program into it Google+ photo-
hosting service, which allows the users to do a lot of tweaking right in the Web interface. This
includes auto-enhance, crops and rotations, and filters such as vintage, which adds a faded and
scratched photo look. The tune feature also offers a lot of power to fix things like white balance
and overexposure, with a live preview that is surprisingly fast for an online service. It is free for
unlimited photos at Google’s downsized “standard” size, which is sufficient for web sharing, 15Gb
of full sized pictures (storage shared using google drive and Gmail accounts)
