How does a power supply work
Like every powered equipment, a computer needs electricity to run, but a computer requires
varied amounts of electricity in various locations, which is what a power supply is for. A power
supply turns alternating current into direct current as its first function. Electron flow is what
creates electricity. While direct current occurs when the flow of electrons remains in one
direction, like a river, alternating current occurs when the electrons flow back and forth like
water sloshing in a bathtub. Alternating current is ideal for the extensive electrical grid of power
lines. The majority of appliances have these large boxes on their power cables that extract
alternating current from your power outlet and convert it into direct current for your appliance to
use. This box also controls how much electricity is fed to the device so that it doesn't become
overloaded. While your computer's power supply does this, it also controls which levels of
current go to which components powering the tin. The power supply pulls all the electricity from
the wall, saves a healthy amount of it, and then distributes the power levels according to the
needs of the components since powering a motor that turns the cooling fans or disk drives
requires a bit more. The three main voltages are, respectively, 3.3, 5 and 12, the last being used
for disk drives and fans, while the first two are mainly for electronics. Power supply units get
very hot, as they do with anything that stores a lot of electricity. They have built-in fans to draw
cool air in and push hot air out from the circuitry because of this. A computer's power supply
should be modified in this manner if the requirements of these devices vary because many power
supplies are made with the intake directed downward. This is one reason it may be advantageous
for you to have your computer slightly raised. On the motherboard of the computer, there are tiny
calculators that can talk to the power supply and allow it to.
