● Michael Phelps, often referred to as the "Flying Fish"
or "The Baltimore Bullet," is a retired American
swimmer who is widely regarded as one of the
greatest athletes of all time. Born on June 30, 1985, in
Baltimore, Maryland, Phelps's remarkable swimming
career has left an indelible mark on the sport and
earned him a place in the annals of Olympic history.
● Michael Fred Phelps II[5] (born June 30, 1985)[6] is an American
former competitive swimmer. He is the most successful and
most decorated Olympian of all time [7] with a total of 28 medals. [8]
Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals (23),[9]
Olympic gold medals in individual events (13), and
Olympic medals in individual events (16).[10] At the
2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Phelps tied the record of eight
medals of any color at a single Games, held by gymnast Alexander
Dityatin, by winning six gold and two bronze medals. Four years later,
when he won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, he broke
fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven
first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games. At the
2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps won four gold and two
silver medals, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he
won five gold medals and one silver. This made him the
most successful athlete of the Games for the fourth Olympics in a row.

Maryland, in 1985, Phelps showed an early
aptitude for swimming, joining the North
Baltimore Aquatic Club and quickly rising through
the ranks of competitive swimming. Despite being
diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) as a child, Phelps channeled his
boundless energy into his passion for swimming.
His educational journey paralleled his burgeoning
swimming career. Phelps attended Towson High
School and later transferred to the University of
Michigan, where he combined his academic
pursuits with world-class training under the
guidance of renowned coach Bob Bowman. His
relentless work ethic and dedication paid off as he
graduated with a degree in Sports Marketing and
Management, demonstrating his commitment to
both his education and athletic pursuits. Phelps's

FINA; this achievement surpassed
Mark Spitz's previous record of 33
world records (26 individual, 7

have broken 67 official world

All but two of the records were set
in a long-course (50-meter) pool.
