1. This paper consists of section A and B with a total of 14marks questions.

2. Answer all questions from section A and B.

3. Each question in section A carries 06 marks and B carries10 marks.

4. All necessary working and answers for each question must be shown clearly.

5. NECTA mathematical table and non-programmable calculator may be used.

6. All communication devices and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the
examination room.

SECTION A (60 marks)

Answer all questions in this section

3. a) In a village all the people speak Kiswahili or English or both. Among them, 97% speak
Kiswahili and 64% speak English.

(i) What percentage speaks both Kiswahili and English?

(ii) What percentage speaks English only?

b) The probability that Neema uses school bus is 0.4, when she uses school bus the probability that
she arrives late at home is 0.5. Find the probability that she won’t arrive late at home in any of these
two cases.

4. a)A Boat crosses a river at a velocity of 20km/hr southward .A river has a current of 5km/hr due
east. Calculate the resultant velocity of the boat.

members were there?
b) Zelda company started business on1stFebruary2008 with capital in cash 350,000.In

13. a) A linear transformation T carries a point (𝑥',')where𝑥' = 3𝑥 +𝑦 and 𝑦' = 𝑥


−3𝑦.Write down the matrix corresponding to T and find the image of (3,4) under this
transformation.

b) Solve the system of equations by using inverse matrix method:-

14. a) (i) Draw the graph of f ( x)=|x−1|, for −4≤x ≤4


(ii)State the domain and range of the function
b) A farmer wants to plant coffee and potatoes. Coffee needs 3men per hectare and potatoes
needs 3 men per hectare. He has 48 hired laborers available. To maintain one hectare of
coffee he needs 250,000 shillings while one hectare of potatoes costs him 100,000
shillings. Find the greatest possible area of land he can sow, if he has prepared to use
2500,000 shillings.
