CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study

Physical fitness refers to the overall health and well-being of the body,

achieved through regular physical activity, exercise, and proper nutrition. It is the

ability to perform everyday tasks efficiently and effectively without feeling any

fatigue while maintaining good health. Gorbin, C. B., & Masurier, G. (2024).

Physical fitness encompasses the capability of your body's systems to function

harmoniously, enabling you to maintain good health and engage in everyday

activities. Efficiency in this context means accomplishing daily tasks with minimal

exertion. An individual in good physical condition can manage academic

responsibilities, fulfill household duties, and still possess sufficient energy to

participate in sports and recreational pursuits. Such a person is equipped to

handle typical life scenarios, like raking leaves at home, stocking shelves during

a part-time job, or marching in a school band. Additionally, a physically fit

individual is prepared to react to emergencies, whether that involves running to

seek assistance or helping a friend in needresearchers hope to understand

market trends and assess how well our new product may be accepted by

consumers.

For Grade 12 students, physical fitness becomes even more important as they

deal with academic pressures, stress, and other lifestyle changes. There are

negative effects when a person lacks or has no physical activity, especially

students. Also, there are no known studies that deal with the impact of physical

fitness exercises on Physical Fitness Components. According to Murphy, Caitlin,

& Ferguson. (2024) Physical activity is linked to numerous health advantages


throughout an individual's lifespan. Regular engagement in physical activity has

been demonstrated to contribute to both the primary and secondary prevention of

various conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes,

osteoporosis, and obesity. Furthermore, beyond the physical health benefits,

consistent involvement in physical activity is correlated with several favorable

mental health outcomes, such as decreased levels of anxiety, stress, and

depression

Statement of the Problem

This research aims to investigate the impact of physical fitness exercises on

these components, exploring differences in physical activity levels.

1. What demographic data of the students involve?

1.4 BMI

2. How many hours per week do Grade 12 students engage in physical fitness

exercises?

3. What percentage of participants agree that physical fitness exercises improve

their overall well-being?

Theoretical Framework

According to González et al. (2021), interventions in this age group have a

multiplier effect, reinforcing positive habits and mitigating risks associated with
sedentary lifestyles. Within educational settings, the application of HRFM can

provide a structured pathway for achieving these outcomes, ensuring that

students attain optimal levels of physical fitness while balancing academic

responsibilities. Sánchez-Oliva et al. (2020) expanded this model by emphasizing

the importance of motivational climates created by educators and peers,

suggesting that intrinsic motivation significantly amplifies the benefits of physical

activities. This contemporary adjustment highlights the psychosocial dimensions

of exercise, which are particularly significant in a Grade 12 context, as students

navigate the dual pressures of academic performance and developmental

milestones. Together, these theories suggest that a holistic approach—combining

structured interventions with a supportive and motivating environment—improves

physical fitness and encourages lasting, healthy activity habits among students.

Significance of the Study

The findings can inform the design of effective physical education

programs, guide school policies, and contribute to research on students health.

The study will also provide benefits to the following sectors:

Administration

This study will inform them to enhance school fitness programs, improving

students' focus and health.

Students

They will understand regular exercise improves their physical and mental

well-being, motivating them to prioritize fitness for better academic and personal

development.

Teachers

They will understand how exercise affects student fitness, allowing them to

adapt teaching methods to encourage physical activity and improve classroom

performance.

Parents

Will gain insights into the importance of supporting their children's physical

fitness, fostering healthy habits at home.

Future Researchers

This study will serve as a foundation and guide on their research and it will also

inform them the impact of physical fitness on physical components .


Scope and Delimitation

This study focuses on investigating the impact of Physical Fitness

Exercises on Physical Fitness Components of grade 12 students in Fort Bonifacio

High School. It will assess the possible improvements of the students under of

intervention in the school year 2024-2025.

Definition of Terms

The following terms used in this study are defined conceptually or

operationally.

Physical fitness

It refers to the overall health and well-being of the body, achieved


through regular physical activity, exercise, and proper nutrition. It is
the ability to perform everyday tasks efficiently and effectively without
feeling any fatigue while maintaining good health

Physical Fitness Components

Refer to the fundamental elements or aspects of physical fitness that


contribute to an individual's overall health, performance, and physical
well-being. These components are typically measured and developed
through physical activity/exercises and it has two types skill related
and health related
Skill related

Skill-related physical fitness involves attributes essential for effective


performance in sports and physical activities. These components,
including agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time, and
speed, are crucial for improving athletic ability.

Health related

Health-related physical fitness refers to components that directly affect


an individual's overall health and well-being. These aspects are crucial
for maintaining good physical health. cardiovascular endurance,
muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body
composition Physical activity Refers to any bodily movement that
results in energy consumption, including activities performed during
daily living, such as walking, household chores, and playing.
