Aims
The aim of this project is to design and implement
a smart home automation system that seamlessly
integrates intelligent appliance control and
monitoring to enhance convenience, security, and
energy efficiency. By leveraging advanced
technologies, this system will provide users with
centralized control over household appliances,
real-time notifications, and automated responses
to environmental changes and security breaches.

enhance air quality and air monitoring. It will also
provide an alarm for unauthorized movements in the
house, make loud buzzing warnings whenever there is
insecure time or any other risk for the home.

Energy Efficiency As a smart solution for energy optimization, the

system operates household devices such as lights,

fans, and other appliances using relay modules based
on environmental conditions and motion sensor
activities.

Remote Monitoring The appliance control and monitoring will be

essentially carried out using smart phones, this will be

done through integrating ESP32’s Wi-Fi features.
Critical notifications especially motion detection and
gas detection would be facilitated too.

User-Friendly A user-friendly mobile or web application will be

designed for easy interaction with the system where

Project
Scope
This project report presents the design and development of a Smart Home
Automation System comprising the ESP32 module, Gas leakage sensor, PIR sensor,
and 433 RF module. It will enhance the security, safety, and convenience at home by
merging various sensors and communication modules within one framework.
The scope of this project is the design and realization of a prototype of a smart home
automation system, which integrates different functions, making houses more secure.

In addition, motion detection and gas leak detection alerts are incorporated into the
system guaranteeing the user’s safety, 433 RF modules are implemented for the
purpose of notification and security, and a buzzer and ESP32 are included for the
effort of control. Its scalability permits simple feature enhancement making it a
cutting-edge, environmentally green home automation system.

Inspiration & Rationale

behind project idea
The idea of this project came into being through the emergent need for improved
security and automation in modern homes. With increased urbanization and
technological advancement, there is an ever-increasing demand for solutions that
combine safety, convenience, and energy efficiency.

Inspiration: Rationale:
The concept of smart homes is gaining Safety Concerns: A gas leakage sensor

Relevance

According to the knowledge provided in the Microcontroller and Sensor module that
we learned in this diploma, we got the necessary understanding in this module to use
ESP32 microcontroller to make this project successful and we got the necessary
knowledge about PIR sensors, DHT sensors, gas sensors and 433 MHz circuits.

We are using concepts of Electrical Technology to implement this project in the real
world, where it can even be used to switching ON or OFF high voltage devices like
230-volt bulbs. Implemented relays, sensors, and transistors into the system based
on relay and transistor specifications learned in Analog Electronics. Little by little, we
have implemented those features for this project.

This is a project where one would be utilizing a microcontroller, which involves

interfacing sensors or actuators using GPIO pins, knowledge that you learn in digital
circuits. Besides, writing the functionalities inside a microcontroller in C is also part of
the system development process, and the learned programming helped us to
implement the wanted functionality correctly.

Finally, knowledge in engineering mathematics has been instrumental in logically

designing this system; project management skills have been helpful in the
management of this project. Precisely, knowledge acquired at the diploma program
has been important and has completely made this project successful.

Ethical
Implications
We do not use any applications that harm personal data storage and people's privacy.
We do not use environmentally friendly devices and we try to prevent electricity
waste through this system. We give priority to people's safety.

We provide transparency in how the system functions, with no hidden operations that
would undermine confidence. All hardware and software components shall be used
responsibly, adhering to good industrial standards; we will work toward being inclusive
through designs that make systems accessible and user-friendly for everyone.

Conclusion
This home automation project will make household
management easier and more convenient by giving users
control and monitoring over security, temperature, and safety
in an easy-to-operate and accessible manner that adds to
comfort and peace of mind.
