5. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Roxar MPFM 2600 system has an embedded flow computer that acquires and processes data
from the sensor electronics and performs the necessary calculations in order to determine flow rates.
Since this embedded computer has no operator interface, a separate computer running the Roxar
MPFM 2600 service console software is used for calibration and configuration. The Roxar MPFM 2600
Service console software is the operator’s access point to the Roxar Multiphase flow meter. The Roxar
MPFM 2600 service console software has several options. Figure 1 shows a typical system installation
and available options.

Figure 1 : Roxar MPFM 2600 typical System installation

The Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer is the heart of the system. The service console PC is a personal
computer that serves as an operator interface to the flow computer. The data acquisition system is a
customer supplied system which connects multiphase flow measurements to the process management
system at the installation site.
The service console software displays measurement data and instrument status from the meter unit.
The program may also function as a well test program and a data logging program where an external
data acquisition system is not available.
Under normal operations, the program displays flow parameters in real time, both numerically and
graphically. The graph axes may be easily changed to suit the needs of current flow conditions.
Measured data may also be logged in a buffer in the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer and/or to a file
on a PC.

System (Roxar MSS). The bottom section displays the measured water conductivity (CondP) and
calculated water salinity (SalP%) that is submitted by the Roxar Multiphase Salinity System to the
MPFM 2600 flow computer if the Roxar MPFM 2600 is installed with the Roxar Multiphase Salinity
System connected.

7.3.3 Upper graph

The upper graph displays the volume flow rates over time for each phase. Each phase is drawn in the
same colour as displayed in the status panel to the right. The oil and water flow rates are drawn
according to the scale on the left side of the graph. The gas flow rate is drawn according to the scale
on the right side of the graph.

The graphs always display the most recent measurements. Once a graph is filled, new measurements
are added at the right edge and previous measurements are moved to the left. The horizontal and
vertical scales of this graph may be changed by executing the View|Graph Axis Span command. See
section 7.3.10.

7.3.8 Standard Conditions or Actual Conditions

Ref. 7.3.2 where flow rates are displayed in reference either to the actual temperature and pressure in
the flow meter (actual conditions) or to standard temperature and pressure (standard conditions). The
heading above the upper graph indicates which conditions are applied to calculate the flow rates.
Execute the View|Flow, Actual or View|Flow, Std. Cond. commands to change the display
conditions. Note that when changing between actual and standard conditions the graph is cleared
before data is presented with the most recent selected conditions.
The accumulated flow volumes are also displayed in reference either to the actual conditions or to
standard conditions. Changing between actual and standard conditions does not affect the
accumulated volumes, only the manner in which they are displayed.
The parameters for conversion between actual and standard conditions are specified via the
Fluid|Fluid Calibration Set command. See section 9.2.1

7.3.9 Accumulated flow volumes

The accumulated flow volumes are the total volumes of each phase which have passed through the
flow meter since the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer was turned on or the accumulation registers
were reset. The registers latest time and date reset values, are displayed in the upper status panel as
well as being included in each line of the log file.
The Options|Reset Accumulated Volumes command clears the accumulation registers and sets the
current flow computer time as the Acc. reset time.

7.3.10 Graph axes
The scale of the upper and lower graphs may be changed by executing the View|Graph Axis Span
command. This command opens the dialog box shown in Figure 14.
In the Upper Graph Settings panel, enter the desired minimum and maximum values for the Y-axis of
the upper graph. The Flow Display Span is the Y-axis span for oil and water flow rates regardless of
whether actual or standard conditions are used. The Actual Gas rate Span is the Y-axis span for gas
flow rates displayed according to actual conditions. The Std. Gas rate Span is the Y-axis span for gas
flow rates displayed according to standard conditions.

Figure 14: Graph Axes Span dialog box used to change the scale of the upper and lower graphs displayed
in the Multiphase Flow Meter dialog box.

In the Lower Graph Settings panel, enter the desired minimum and maximum values for the Y
(vertical) axis of the lower graph. The values to be entered here will be dependent on which parameter
is selected to be displayed in the lower graph. In the Common Graph Settings panel, enter the time
span to be displayed across the X-axis of both graphs.
Once the desired settings have been entered, click on the OK button to close the dialog box. Note that
when changing graph scales, the graph is cleared before data is presented with the new scale(s).
The units in which the measured values are displayed may be changed by executing the
Options|Units command (described in section 8.1.3).

7.3.11 Mass flow

Instantaneous mass flow rates and accumulated mass flow may be viewed by executing the
View|Mass Flow command. This command opens a separate dialog box shown in Figure 15.
The mass flow displayed is calculated from the measured volume flow and the density calibration
information entered with the Fluid|Field Calibration Set command.

Mass flow data is shown numerically. The Service Console program does not display mass flow
graphically in this display.

As an alternative, mass flow can be displayed graphically and numerically on the normal display (see
Figure 8) by selecting Mass Flow rate instead of volumetric flow rates (described in section 8.1.3).

7.4 Data logging

Data from the flow meter may be logged in a number of ways:

 in a local log file generated by the Service Console program

 in the log buffer in the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer
 by exporting recent data to another program
 by printing the current graphical display
 through a data acquisition system to the process management system at site

Since the data acquisition system is a customer supplied system, this document can only mention this
possibility for data logging. The other data logging methods are described below.

7.4.1 Parameter logging
The parameter logging is enabled by executing the File|Parameter logging command, which opens
the log configuration dialog box shown in Figure 16.

Figure 16: Log Configuration dialog box.

In the upper part of the menu select the desired parameter to log from a scroll down menu.
In the log setup in the lower left corner logging data to the PC will be enabling and disabling
accordingly. It is not possible to disable internal logging within the flow computer.
In the text box “Log interval”, enter the desired number of minutes between each entry in the log files.
Click “OK” to save any changes.
Data is logged in the same units as those displayed by the program. If the units are changed while
data logging is enabled, new column headers with the new units are added to the log file.
The local log file may be easily imported into a spreadsheet, word processor or database. It is a text
file containing the selected parameters in addition to time and date.
The local log file is stored in the LogFiles subfolder of the program folder (typically C:\Program
Files\Topside\) with a filename in the form YY_MM_DD.LOG where YY, MM and DD are the year,
month and day of the current date1.

1
NOTE: The offline version of the Service Console program creates all logfiles in the folder named
Offline located under the Topside folder.

7.4.2 Retrieve MPFM logfiles
Because the log buffer is stored in the flow computer, its contents must be retrieved in order to be
accessible in the service console PC (or other PCs). This is done by executing the File/Retrieve
MPFM Logfile command, which opens the dialog box shown in Figure 17.

Figure 17: Log buffer must be retrieved from the flow computer to be used in another program.

The retrieved log file will be stored in the MPFM 2600 files subfolder of the program folder (typically
C:\Program Files\Topside\). By default, the filename will have the form YY_MM_DD_A240 or
A241.BUF where YY, MM and DD are the year, month and day of the current date. The file name may
be changed by clicking on the Change Name button and entering the desired file name in the dialog
box which opens. It is not possible to change the folder to which the file will be saved.

The retrieved log file may be easily imported into a spreadsheet, word processor or database. It is a

7.4.3 Exporting data

Data acquired by the Service Console program may be exported to Microsoft Excel using a DDE
2
(Dynamic Data Exchange) link . This data has a format similar to the local log file format, but includes
all data points rather than just those included in the log file.
Users which have access to the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program, may export data to an Excel
spreadsheet directly by executing the File |Excel DDE command. This command opens the dialog
box shown in Figure 18.

Figure 18 : DDE to Excel dialog box to export data to Microsoft Excel.

The full path and file name of the Excel program file must be entered in the Excel Path text box. Click
on the Launch Excel button to run the program specified in the text box. The full path and file name of
the Excel file to be opened must be entered in the Excel File text box3. Click on the Open Excel Sheet
button to open the specified Excel file and transfer the specified number of lines of data to the file.
Status and error messages for the transfer are shown in the Conversation Status panel.
The Topside program has no limitation on the number of lines that may be transferred. However, the
maximum number of rows allowed in an Excel spreadsheet should not be exceeded. (Remember to
allow for 2 column header rows, plus an additional 2 rows for each time the display measurement units
are modified.)
Once the transfer is initiated, the dialog box may be closed. Once all transfers are completed, click on
the Close DDE connection button (execute the File|Export|Excel DDE command again, if
necessary) to close the connection to the Excel file, and then close the dialog box.
The following parameters may be transferred using the DDE functionality:

2
DDE: A form of interprocess communication (IPC) implemented in the Microsoft Windows family of operating
systems. Two or more programs that support dynamic data exchange (DDE) can exchange information and
commands.
3
NOTE: The DDE interface can only open existing Excel-files, not create new files.

7.5 Well test
The well test panel is a data acquisition application that can run for one or more hours where data is
acquired and saved in a standard reporting format.
The well test window (Figure 20) is opened by executing the File|Well Test command. The well test
window is similar to the main window displaying flow rates both graphically and numerically.
Instantaneous and average flow rates as well as accumulated flow volumes are displayed at both
actual conditions and standard conditions. All values are shown in the same units which are currently
selected for the main window.

Figure 20 : The Well Test Program window presents results of the well test both graphically and
numerically.
A text box located below the lower graph may be used by the operator to enter any comments. This
text will be included in reports and printouts.

The well test window has a number of menu items. Unlike the main window, clicking on a menu in the
well test window executes the selected command immediately rather than opening a menu.

After first opening the well test window, the dialog box shown in Figure 21 is displayed. This dialog box
may also be opened by executing the Setup|Well Test Setup command. The well test duration and
the well identification number may be entered.

8. SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
The Roxar MPFM 2600 service console program allows data to be displayed in different units and
languages. In addition, the program may be used to configure communication with the Roxar MPFM
2600 flow computer and between the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer and a customer supplied data
acquisition system.
Access to all parameters which influences the set-up and configuration is password protected. It
should not be necessary to modify configuration parameters under normal operation, since the meter
and software will be properly installed and configured by Roxar personnel when commissioned.

8.1 Roxar MPFM 2600 service console program configuration

8.1.1 Password
Configuration and calibration parameters are password protected to prevent untrained personnel from
inadvertently setting the program in a state which would display incorrect measurement results.

The first level default user password is set by the manufacturer and is available to operators who have
completed the basic user training course. The configuration menu is protected with a second level
password. This menu contains settings that may affect the measurements and should only be used by
operators with detailed knowledge of the system, normally Roxar service engineers or operators with
MPFM advanced training.
The current user password may be changed by executing the Options|Change User Password
command. First enter the current password. Then, enter the new password twice. If the current
password is entered incorrectly, or there is any discrepancy between the two entries of the new
password, the user password will not be changed (see Figure 24).

Figure 24 : Enter the Password for access standard Operator Functionality

8.1.2 Parameter files

All of the configuration and calibration parameters are stored in a parameter file (.prm), which is
located in the Topside folder (generally C:\Program Files\Topside (version)\Parameter Files). It is
possible to create different parameter files for different measurement conditions e.g. different wells.
When the service console program is started it will automatically upload from the flow computer to the
PC the parameter file currently in use by the flow computer. The name of the parameter file will then
be displayed in the Parameter File panel located at the top right corner of the screen (see Figure 25).

8.1.4 Time constants

The average time for the data may be changed by executing the Configuration|Time Constants
command which opens the dialog box shown in Figure 27.

Figure 27 : Configuration/Time Constants dialog box

There are two time constants that may be set. The Measurement average period specifies the
number of seconds over which the raw data is averaged before being applied in the multiphase
calculations.

Caution: If this value is specified incorrectly, the accuracy of flow measurements will
be compromised.

The Flow rate average period (if different from the Measurement average period) causes the
graphically displayed flow rates curves to be averaged over a different period than other
measurements. This averaging only affects the visual presentation of the curves and does not alter
the multiphase calculations.

8.2.1 DP, Pressure and Temperature Transmitter set – up

The Options|Transmitter Inputs command opens the dialog box shown in Figure 30.

Figure 30 : Transmitter Inputs dialog box and RMSS Inputs dialog box
The service console program can raise an alarm if a pressure or temperature exceeds normal
operating limits. When a pressure or temperature is outside its specified alarm limits, the
corresponding text box in the main window will have a red background rather than a white, and a
description of the alarm condition is displayed in the message panel below the lower graph. To set the
high and low alarm limits, access the Transmitter Inputs dialog box via the Options/Transmitter
Inputs menu (see Figure 30, top of the screen).
Enter appropriate low and high alarm limits for each sensor. Click on the up or down arrow to the left
of a value to increase or decrease the currently specified value. Alternatively, the value may be
changed by selecting and entering a new value.
The Transmitter units (i.e. software settings, ref Figure 30) must be set to the same unit as the
transmitter unit itself (i.e. the unit in which the transmitter has been set using a HART communicator).

is not required to make changes under normal operations.
Caution: If these parameters are specified incorrectly, the Service Console program
will not be able to obtain correct data from the transmitters.

The Alarm Limits button may be used to enable or disable alarms.

The Fixed values are used to manually over-ride the live transmitter reading. Activate by checking
this option and then enter the desired fixed value. This option can be used as a temporary setting if a
transmitter fails. After the transmitter has been replaced, the setting should be de-activated. The
Technical Alarm dialogue box will report any transmitter which is set to a fixed value.
The Venturi Zero Detection Lower Limit is achieved when the differential pressure across the
Venturi element reaches the set value of the lower cut-off limit. This is defined as no flow. For
example, when this value is set to 5 mbar as in the dialog box in Figure 30, the flow rates shown in the
main SCP window will be set to zero when dP drops to 5 mbar or below.

8.2.2 Roxar Multiphase Salinity system set up

Figure 29 on the bottom of the screen shows information about the Roxar MSS. To enable the Roxar
MPFM to use the Multiphase Salinity System readings instead of manual input of water conductivity,
the “use for flowcalc” box must be ticked.

The “conductivity input” “high limit” and “low limit” on the right hand side of the screen gives the
opportunity to define cut off values for valid conductivity reading from the Roxar MSS.

The conductivity average field indicates the value used in the flow calculations.

There are various alarms and statuses that can be read from the Roxar Multiphase Salinity system in
the MFPM service console. The most important ones are:

“Comtat”: The field turns yellow in case the communication between the Roxar MSS and the Roxar
MPFM flow computer is not up and running.

Alarms: “Process Pressure”, “Process temperature”, “Mix density”, “Venturi dP”, “microwave system”
indicate that one or more of these parameters that are exchanged between the Roxar MPFM flow
computer and the Roxar MSS are out of range or missing and the Multiphase Salinity System cannot
perform optimal.

Warnings: Indication a possible reason why the Roxar MSS is not able to give reliable water conductivity
readings. Interpretation of these alarms is to be done by a Roxar service engineer. These alarms do not
necessarily mean that the system is not working as designed, it just indicates why under certain
conditions there is no reliable output from the system, for example in oil continuous flow. There are also
temperature alarms (“interface card temp” and “microwave temp”) that may be used to initiate preventive
action in case of overheating of the electronics.

8.3 Data acquisition configuration

A user-supplied external data acquisition system may be connected to the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow
computer. This system is normally used to transfer measurement data from the multiphase flow meter
to a process management system at the installation site.

8.3.1 COM 6 serial port

The Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer can transmit measurement data in Modbus format through its
COM 6 serial port. The Modbus and serial transmission configuration may be specified by executing
the Options|MPFM COM Setup command which opens the dialog box shown in Figure 33.

8.3.2 MODBUS register – fixed values
In order to ease the verification of the serial link, most Modbus registers can be set to a predetermined
fixed value. In this manner the operator can easily verify that the numbers are read correctly. This
command is activated by executing the Configuration|Set fixed values command (See Figure 34).

Figure 34 : Pre determined Fixed Values of MODBUS Registers

Check the Activated box in order to activate this function. Note that if the service console program or
flow computer are switched off and on, this function will be cancelled.

8.4 Clock synchronization

The Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer has its own embedded clock which, among other things, is used
to create time stamps in the log buffer. Since the embedded clock runs independently of the clock in
the service console PC, there may be discrepancies between the two time bases. This can be
corrected by executing the Options|Sensor Computer Clock command which opens the dialog box
shown in Figure 35.

The current date and time of the service console PC is shown in the yellow text boxes in the upper part
of the dialog box. Clicking on the Transfer PC time to MPFM Flow Computer copies the current date
and time of the service console PC into the white text boxes in the lower part of the dialog box.
Clicking on the OK button resets the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer clock to the time shown in the
white text boxes, and closes the dialog box.

9. CALIBRATION
There are a number of parameters that affect the calibration of the multiphase flow meter. Calibration
of the field impedance sensors and densitometer are related to the meter hardware. Properties of the
fluids, such as permittivity, conductivity and density are related to the flow at the installation site. It is
important that these parameters are properly specified in order to obtain the most accurate and reliable
measurement results.
Access to calibration parameters are password protected. It should not be necessary to modify
calibration parameters under normal operation, since the meter and software will be properly installed
and configured by Roxar personnel when commissioned. Roxar makes the default user password
available to operators during training courses.

The calibration parameters are specified by Roxar during meter installation.

Calibration of the hardware or any other changes to calibration parameters should
only be carried out by trained personnel. Caution: If these values are specified
incorrectly, the accuracy of flow measurements will be compromised.

All of the configuration and calibration parameters are stored in a parameter file. It is possible to
create different parameter files for different measurement conditions. By default, the most recently
used parameter file is used when the program is restarted. To load the parameters from an existing
parameter file, execute the File|Change Parameter File command. To save the current parameters in
a new parameter file, execute the File|Save Parameter File command.

9.1.3 Densitometer unit calibration
The densitometer calibration is required only when the hardware is installed. The Gamma source &
detector hardware is not installed in the Non-Gamma version of the Roxar MPFM 2600. The Non-
Gamma method is based on improved algorithms for time series analysis, and analyse the variation in
permittivity measurements combined with a characterisation of the signals over time.
When the gamma densitometer hardware is installed, the calibration procedure described in the
Maintenance Instructions [1] should be followed. The Options|Gammameter Calibration command
opens the dialog box shown in Figure 37. The OK button stores the calibration results in the Roxar

9.2 Fluid calibration
9.2.1 Fluid parameter sets
There are a number of parameters that affect the calibration of the Roxar Multiphase meter.
Calibrations of the gamma densitometer and capacitance units are related to the meter hardware.
Properties of the fluids, such as permittivity, conductivity and density are related to the flow at the
installation site.

The meter and software, including fluid properties, will be properly installed and configured by a Roxar
service engineer during the commissioning and start-up phase. Operators may notice after some time
what appears to be a change in the performance of the meter, this is not necessarily an indication of a
problem with the meter; it could simply mean that the properties of the well(s) have changed. A
possible solution is to update the fluid properties and the PVT tables.

Caution: If these values are specified incorrectly, the accuracy of flow measurements
will be compromised.

There are several types of fluid parameters that affect flow calculations: density, permittivity and
conductivity of the phases, as well as the relationship between standard and actual pressure and
temperature. Fluid parameter sets may be specified by executing the Fluid/Fluid Calibration Set
command, which opens the dialog box shown in Figure 38, Clicking on an Edit button opens the
appropriate dialog box for parameter entry. In the case of both density calculations and conversion to
standard conditions, the user will first be asked to specify which method of parameter entry (lookup
table or default equations) is to be used.

Figure 38 : Fluid Calibration dialog Box, which gives access to fluid property Data
Up to 5 different fluid parameter sets can be specified (called Well 1 – 5). Parameters for conversion to
standard conditions and for density may be entered as default equations or as lookup tables. Default
equations assume linear temperature and pressure coefficients. Lookup tables allow parameters to be
specified at 5 different pressures for each of 5 different temperatures.

In general, there are three common situations where an operator may want to specify different fluid
sets:

Different wells have the same downhole pressure but significantly different GOR (gas-oil ratios).
Wells may be in the same reservoir but located at significantly different reservoir depths.
There are significant differences in the density of the crude being pumped up at different locations.

All five calibration parameter sets are stored in the Roxar MPFM 2600 flow computer as well as in the
current parameter file. The check mark under Well Selection indicates what set of calibration
parameters that are to be applied. Any parameter set may be edited, regardless of whether or not it is
currently selected for use.

9.2.2 Density calculation

Clicking on the Edit button by the Density Calculations column opens the dialog box shown in Figure
39. Densities may be calculated either based on a lookup table of values generated by an external
PVT package, or by using default equations. Select a calculation method and click on the OK button to
open the appropriate parameter entry dialog box.

9.2.2.1 Lookup table method

Caution: If these values are specified incorrectly, the accuracy of flow measurements
will be compromised.

If the lookup table method is selected, the dialog box shown in Figure 40 will open. This dialog box
has five panels: One for lookup table headers, one lookup table for each phase and one for densities
at standard conditions for mass flow calculations.
Normally, this lookup table is generated by an external program and stored as a text file which may be
imported by clicking on the Update table from file button and selecting the appropriate text file or
entering the numbers manually into the table.

A special version of the PVT software can be supplied with the Roxar MPFM 2600. The PVT software
will, based on composition data, generate a density table which can be imported into the service
console program. This manual does not describe how to operate the PVT software.

10. DIAGNOSTICS
Roxar Multiphase meters are extremely robust and contain redundant systems to protect against
failure. If a meter malfunctions or if the operator experiences a problem which he is not able to correct
himself, then a diagnostics test should be performed. For example, the measurement data from the
meter may be inaccurate, the measurement data may be completely wrong, or there may be no data at
all (all zero). Normally, a malfunctioning meter would be checked and diagnosed by Roxar service
personnel, but some of the situations above might be caused by incorrect set-up or calibration of the
meter. To check these possibilities, the user can create diagnostics files that can be sent to the Roxar
service department for diagnostics.
The diagnostics is enabled by executing the Options|Create Dignostics Files command. This
function will perform a diagnostic of the Roxar MPFM 2600 system.
Before starting the diagnostic test, you will be prompted to name the file Figure 46.

Figure 46 : Dialog box for the name of the diagnostic file

A number of relevant files will be collected. Among these files are technical alarm logs, process alarm
logs, parameter settings, reset logged data files and several other files. All files will be stored in a
folder which will be generated automatically (normally C:\Topside\Diagnostics\). After completing the
diagnostics, you will be asked if the files are to be stored onto a floppy disk. Press YES to copy data
to the floppy disk (See Figure 47).

Figure 47 : Storage Path for Diagonstic File

NOTE : Whenever Diagnostics is run, it creates files & overwrites if any diagnostic file is already
exisitng in the path shown in Figure 46. So, prior to running a second set of diagnostics, please copy
the earlier diagnostic files to a safe location.

11.1.1 Activate Roxar MPFM 2600 wetgas mode.
To enable the wetgas functionality the first step is to enter the configuration menu and select sensor
calibration. Then the window tab CapSens conf found under the configuration menu must be selected,
shown in Figure 50.

Figure 50 : Sensor Calibration menu

To activate wetgas calculation the Fraction Model selector must be set to 5 (Wetgas) and then press
the Update MPFM button to update the FC with the new setting. Finally press the Exit button to close
the menu and return to the service console. After a FC update (approximate 10 seconds) the service
console will change to show wetgas readings as shown in Figure 49.

11.1.2 Configure Wetgas calculation

Setup of the calculation method to be used is found in the Wetgas tab in the Sensor Calibration menu,
Figure 51. The graphical presentation shows the permittivity and voltage/capacitance readings for Ch1
(6-electrode section), Ch2 (2-electrode section) and Ch3 (between two adjacent electrodes in 6-
electrode section).

If the meter is equipped with a density system this must be ticked on. Currently the measured density
is only used as an inspection value, the density used in calculations is from PVT-tables. The CapCal
selection should not be ticked on, since this is only used during factory calibration of the meter.

Figure 51 : Wetgas Calculation Setup menu

If the meter is operated with manual WLR input the selector must be set to WLR from manual input
and the current WLR must be entered.

If the meter is to be operated with use of the capacitive sensor to measure the WLR the selector must
be set to WLR measurement mode. To enable the meter to calculate correct WLR it depends on a
separate set of wetgas calibration coefficients normally in place from factory. If the gas permittivity is
possible to measure with shut in of dry gas at operating pressure this will provide a good reference
point otherwise use the default value 1 and pressure factor. The oil/condensate permittivity is also
preferred to be found by the meter, but it is normally difficult to achieve this and an inline calibration
during flow is necessary. This is done by adjusting the permittivity for oil until waterfraction match a
fluid sample taken at the same time.

Flow calibration equations for gas and liquid mass flow rates are also available if needed. This is
normally not needed, but if a good reference system enables improvement of flow rates, a third order
equation is available. In Table 2 an explanation of the setup parameters is listed.

The capcal equation is made at factory and only needs to be verified against certificate. The wetgas
calibration is completed at factory if the meter is bought with wetgas mode. If this is a meter where the
wetgas functionality is added post-factory the coefficients for this meter has to be calculated and
entered at site. Document [4] contains calibration equation for different sized meters and the
corresponding has to be entered. Procedure [3] explains how to adjust this equation to compensate for
any offset between empty (gas filled) permittivity. Please note that in field the gas point for empty
sensor is set equal to air in the adjustment document [4]. So the procedure is not fully completed as
only the “air” point is recorded and used to adjust the default equation. It is important that the meter is
bypassed and contains steady gas at a given pressure and temperature. The gas reference permittivity
will also have to be updated according to the measured permittivity @P&T after the adjusted equation
is implemented into the meter. The Roxar MPFM 2600 should then measure and show 100% GVF,
even if no flow.

11.2 Fluid data

When the steps described in the previous chapter are performed the next step is to input fluid data
information. The compositional data retrieved for the current fluid has to be entered into Roxar
Tempest PVTx and tables covering the actual pressure and temperature have to be made. Three files
stating actual density (named xxxx_dens.txt), black oil tables (named xxxx_bo.txt) and wetgas (named
xxxx_2pf.txt) is needed. These must be downloaded into the FC, according to the description found in
the operating instructions for the Roxar MPFM 2600, [2]. In Figure 53 tables stating actual densities
and gas fraction is shown, the conversion to standard condition tab contains the black oil tables.

Figure 53 Fluid data tables

Then the MPFM is ready to measure wetgas flow.
