SECTION B
COMPREHENSION PASSAGE 1
Read the following passages and answer the questions that follow
HOW MALARIA CAN BE STOPPED
Malaria is a very bad sickness. It kills children and older too. It is caused by
mosquitoes.
Let’s talk about how we can prevent mosquitoes from giving people malaria. Weed
the inside and outside of your house. Gather the weeds and burn them.
Also bury all empty cans and used car tyres. These way mosquitoes will have
nowhere to live or hide. Then we will not suffer from malaria again.
We can also spray our rooms with insecticide or sleep under a treated mosquito
net. Have you heard about these nets? If you sleep under one, no mosquito will
bite you.

SUBJECT: ENGLISH STUDIES CLASS: PRIMARY 2

If rain water or dirty water from our kitchen remains in the gutters, it could serve
as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. To prevent malaria, we should clear dirt in
our gutters so that water can flow easily.
We can also pour kerosene on dirty water around our house to prevent
mosquitoes from producing eggs.
It is also important for us always to close the doors of our house so that mosquitoes
will not enter. If we live near a forest, we should have mosquito nets on all the
windows and doors of our house. This way, mosquitoes will not bite the residents.
