URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR BUNDU WATERSIDE,
PORT HARCOURT
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This proposal outlines an urban renewal plan for Bundu Waterside, located in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State, Nigeria. The project aims to transform the area by addressing its current challenges,
including inadequate housing, poor sanitation, and lack of infrastructure. The renewal will
provide improved living conditions for residents, stimulate local economic activity, and create a
sustainable, resilient community. The proposed timeline for the completion of the first phase is 3
years, with the full project expected to be completed in 5 years.
INTRODUCTION
Bundu Waterside is a densely populated waterfront community in Port Harcourt, Nigeria,
characterized by informal housing, limited access to basic services, and poor infrastructure. The
area faces challenges such as flooding, inadequate waste management, and limited healthcare
and educational facilities. Despite its proximity to the city’s commercial areas, Bundu Waterside
remains underdeveloped, with many of its residents living in substandard conditions.
The urban renewal project seeks to address these issues through strategic improvements in
infrastructure, housing, and public spaces, creating a more sustainable and livable environment
for its residents. The project will focus on maintaining the cultural identity of Bundu Waterside
while improving the overall quality of life.
