About the Dance School
Sri Guru Krupa Natya Kala Mandir is a Bharatanatyam dance school
following the Kalakshetra Bhani of Bharatanatyam. The holistic
approach towards Bharatanatyam followed here, is imbibed by all the
students and they learn to communicate effectively, bearing in mind
the different types of audiences, and where the dance by itself is
performed in a vivacious and spiritual quality at the same time
adhering to the traditional boundaries.

Students of the dance school have many awards to their credit


including the very prestigious Bharat Kalachar scholarships, a number
of awards in national level competitions and international
performances. The dance productions of the school are performed
every year in many prominent Sabhas.

The Dance School has been following traditional dancing ethics for
the more than 20 years and has gained a prominent name for itself.

About the Guru
Dr. Lakshmi Jaya Priyaa, is a scholar and exponent in the field of
Bharatanatyam. The creativity she displays in every one of her choreographies,
speak for themselves. Having imbibed the Kalakshetra Bhani in its truest form
from her Guru, Smt. Jayashree Narayanan, she excels in producing her
choreographies with utmost adherence to its rules. With her vast knowledge
and work experience, she has carved a niche for herself in this said field.
Students under her able guidance, are rigorously trained mainly in 3 levels,
namely basics and theory, introduction to items, and then intricate Abhinaya.
Self-choreography is highly encouraged by her, in order to motivate her
students. Under her tutelage, her students have performed in a number of
prestigious sabhas in the city and have also given international recitals.

The conceptualization of her yearly dance drams and the grandeur showcased
in its execution, are a treat to watch. Her most recent choreography for ‘Sri
Aandal’, a musical produced by Mr. Kaarthik Raaja was very highly celebrated
by critics and rasikas of Natyam. Dr. Lakshmi Jaya Priyaa has completed her
Ph.D in Bharatanatyam, from the University of Madras. A few of her awards
include the title of Natyakala Choodamani from Gana Mukundhapriya, Best
Teacher Award from Rotary International Club, and Best Choreographer Award
from Rotary Natyanjali among many others.
About the Sishya:
The epitome of sincerity, dedication and absolute passion for
Bharatanatyam, Medha Murali, has been pursuing this artform
for the last 12 years under the able guidance of Guru. Dr.
Lakshmi Jaya Priyaa. Medha’s iconic and sublime
performances stand testimony to the fact that she is indeed a
dancing prodigy.

Medha is currently studying in Class 11, in Padma Seshadri


Bala Bhavan, Nungambakkam. She has proved to be
academically meritorious, along with the ability to skilfully
manage her co curricular activities. She also enjoys training
the tiny tots of her dance school and choreographing pieces on
her own.

Medha is a tech savvy person and wishes to take up sound


engineering for her collegiate studies, while pursuing dance
full time. Medha has a plethora of awards and prizes to her
credit including the Bharat Kalachar scholarship in the years
2016 and 2019, the winning title of Rotary Natyanjali in the
years of 2019 and 2022.
