PORTFOLIO OUTPUT NO.10: PROJECT-TO-DO-LIST | REFLECTION

As a STEM 12 student, the experience of planning the Grade 12 Year-End Fun Day using a structured planning tool was
both enlightening and transformative. Initially, the idea of organizing such a significant event seemed overwhelming. However,
breaking the process into steps and assigning specific tasks provided clarity and direction.
The tool allowed us to approach the project systematically, ensuring no critical aspect was overlooked. It fostered
collaboration among my classmates as we worked within committees, making the workload manageable and enjoyable. Having
a clear roadmap also boosted my confidence in taking on responsibilities, knowing exactly what needed to be done and when.
This experience has taught me the value of detailed planning and teamwork. It has shown me that even complex tasks
can be achieved efficiently when approached with a well-thought-out strategy. Moving forward, I am inspired to apply this
structured approach in both academic and personal projects, knowing it leads to success and satisfaction.

PORTFOLIO OUTPUT NO.11: MAKE A MIND MAP | REFLECTION

As a STEM student, practicing meditation and psychological retention is essential to my overall well-being and academic
performance. STEM subjects often demand intense focus, critical thinking, and problem-solving, which can sometimes feel
overwhelming. By incorporating meditation into my routine, I cultivate a sense of calm and clarity, helping me manage stress
and stay centered amidst challenging tasks.
Psychological retention, on the other hand, strengthens my ability to retain and recall information effectively, a vital skill
for mastering complex concepts and excelling in exams. These practices not only enhance my mental resilience but also
encourage mindfulness, enabling me to approach problems with a focused and open mind.
Through meditation and psychological retention, I experience growth—not just as a student, but as an individual
prepared to face the demands of life with balance and composure.

PORTFOLIO OUTPUT NO.12: MEDIA INFLUENCES (HOW ADS AFFECTED MY SELF-

ESTEEM)
Name some ads that appear on TV, billboards, the internet.
- Paid political advertisements are banned on TikTok, Google, and Meta platforms for the 2025 Philippine elections.
1) What messages doo these ads give to middle adolescents like you?
- The ban on paid political advertisements on platforms like TikTok, Google, and Meta for the 2025 Philippine elections
sends a clear message about the importance of protecting users, especially middle adolescents, from the overwhelming
influence of political messaging. These platforms are often spaces where young people engage with content, and such
ads could potentially shape their opinions and attitudes in ways that might not be fully informed or critically evaluated.
For someone like me, this ban serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking diverse perspectives, being cautious
about how political ads can manipulate emotions, and understanding that such content should not define our views
without thorough consideration of other sources of information.
2) How have these ads affected your lifestyle, self-esteem, and values?
- Political advertisements have the potential to affect my lifestyle, self-esteem, and values by reinforcing certain
stereotypes or expectations that I may not have fully understood at the time. Seeing these ads constantly on social
media can sometimes create a sense of pressure to align with certain political ideologies or values, which can influence
the way I view myself and others. If I were to unconsciously adopt these political messages, they could steer me away
from forming my own independent opinions. However, with the ban in place, I now feel like I have more space to form
my beliefs and values without the direct pressure of political ads constantly bombarding me. It encourages me to think
more critically and to seek out information from a wider array of sources.
3) How has this lesson changed your perception about ads?
- This lesson has significantly changed my perception of ads in general. I now realize that advertisements, especially
political ones, are not just tools for promoting products but also for shaping opinions, sometimes subtly influencing our
behaviors and beliefs. Ads can be persuasive, and their effects can be long-lasting, especially when targeted at
vulnerable groups like adolescents. Understanding this, I now view ads with more skepticism and am more conscious of
how they can influence my choices, both consciously and unconsciously. This awareness has made me more critical of
the content I engage with, ensuring that I take the time to evaluate the information I encounter before making
judgments or decisions.

PORTFOLIO OUTPUT NO.13: ANXIETY V.S. DEPRESSION

“BEYOND EMPTINESS: A RESEARCH ARTICLE”
By: Yeoj L. Jesalva
Anxiety and depression are two of the most prevalent mental health conditions globally, often affecting individuals in
various ways and with varying intensity. Anxiety is a psychological state characterized by feelings of worry, nervousness, and
fear, often accompanied by physical symptoms like a racing heart, sweating, or shortness of breath. It can occur in response to
stress or can be generalized, persisting even without clear external threats. Depression, on the other hand, is marked by a
persistent feeling of sadness or loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It often includes symptoms like fatigue, changes in
appetite or sleep patterns, and feelings of worthlessness. Both conditions can significantly impair daily functioning, but they
differ in their emotional focus—anxiety is typically centered around future uncertainties, while depression tends to focus on
negative thoughts about the self and past experiences.
In terms of global prevalence, both anxiety and depression are alarmingly widespread. According to the World Health
Organization (WHO), anxiety disorders affect approximately 264 million people worldwide, making it one of the most common
mental health issues. Similarly, depression is a leading cause of disability globally, affecting over 300 million individuals across
all age groups. In the United States alone, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that 19.1% of adults
experienced an anxiety disorder in the past year, and about 7.8% of adults faced a major depressive episode in the same
period. These statistics underline the growing concern surrounding mental health and highlight the need for early diagnosis
and effective treatment options.
While anxiety and depression can occur independently, they often co-occur, with individuals experiencing both
conditions simultaneously. According to studies, nearly 50% of people with depression also have an anxiety disorder. This
overlap can complicate diagnosis and treatment, as the symptoms of one may exacerbate the other. Additionally, research
shows that individuals with anxiety disorders are at an increased risk of developing depression, further emphasizing the
interconnected nature of these conditions.

The key differences between anxiety and depression lie in their emotional and psychological manifestations. Anxiety is
driven by a heightened sense of fear or worry, typically concerning future events or potential threats, whether real or
perceived. People with anxiety disorders often experience physical symptoms, such as rapid heartbeat or excessive sweating,
which can be incapacitating. In contrast, depression is more often characterized by a pervasive sense of hopelessness, a lack
of interest in life, and a deep sense of sadness. While anxiety can sometimes fuel the desire to act or seek solutions,
depression can cause a profound loss of motivation, often leading to withdrawal from social or professional obligations.
Treatment for both anxiety and depression varies but typically involves a combination of therapeutic interventions such
as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), medication like antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, and lifestyle changes including
exercise and mindfulness practices. Early intervention is crucial, as untreated anxiety and depression can lead to more severe
psychological conditions or even physical health complications. As mental health continues to be a topic of increasing
importance, understanding the nuances of anxiety and depression, as well as recognizing their prevalence and impact, is vital
for improving the well-being of individuals affected by these conditions. Addressing mental health with compassion and
effective strategies is essential to reducing the global burden of these disorders and promoting healthier societies overall.
