The run up to the Oral Exam
• The Goal
material should be fluid, free flowing and natural
• Revision should match the exam
writing for written exam, listening for aural; SPEAKING for ORAL exam
• Practice speaking
meet ups with friends- Voice notes – Whatsapp / snapchat
• 5 Weeks until exam
plenty of time to make massive progress (topic / week)
• Avoid Learning chunks of material

The Problem with a Common Oral Exam

There are six mistakes above ábhar scoile againn
Layout of the Exam

• Fáiltiú (5m)

• Comhrá (120 marks and lasts 7-8 minutes)

First things first
When you walk into the room, greet the examiner with
Dia duit
or the response
Dia is Muire duit

The examiner will ask how you are


“Conas atá tú” or “Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú”. Simply reply with

“go maith, go raibh maith agat. Agus tú féin?


or
“rud beag néirbhíseach ach go maith, go raibh maith agat”.

Wait for the questions (!)

Practice the Pronunciation everyday (more marks than Paper 2)

Read the poems outload (intonation, stress, rhyme)

Don’t race through it – slow the tempo down

Listen to the poems on TG4 – mimic their sounds, pronunciation
