Using Present Perfect

Using Present Perfect and Simple Past Together
Writers often use the present perfect to introduce a topic about the past. Then they
change to the simple past to talk about specific events and experiences.
The present perfect is used in writing about a person's experiences and accomplishments
over a period of time.
Remember:

• Use the present perfect when exact dates are not important or are unknown
or for actions and events that have happened over time and up to now.
