1. Types of Word Problems


- Add to: Example - Amy has 27 apples and buys 15 more. How many does she have
now?
- Take from: Example - Joe has 65 marbles and loses 18. How many does he have
left?
- Compare: Example - Mia has 45 stickers, and Tom has 38. How many more does Mia
have than Tom?

2. Steps to Solve
- Step 1: Read the problem carefully.
- Step 2: Identify what is known and unknown.
- Step 3: Choose a strategy (drawings, equations).
- Step 4: Solve and check your work.

3. Practice Problems
- Add to: ? + 12 = 25
- Take from: 40 - ? = 18
- Compare: 35 - 28 = ?
