INDEFINITE ARTICLES A /AN
In English there are three articles: a, an, the. Articles are used before nouns or noun
equivalent and are a type of adkectives. The definite article (the) is used before a noun to
indicate that the identity of the noun is known to the reader. The indefinite article (a, an)
is used before a noun that is general or when its identity is not known. There are certain
situations in which a noun takes no articles.

a (before a singular noun beginning wthh a consonant sound)


an ( before a singular noun beginning with a vowel sound)

POSSESIVE ADJECTIVES
Possessive adjectives are used to show possesion or ownership of something. While we
use them when we refer to people, it is more in the sense of relationship tan ownership.

SIMPLE PRESENT STATEMENTS

 The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. Use the simple present tense

when an action is happening right now or when it happens regularly (or unceasingly,

which is why it’s sometimes called present indefinite).

 Use the root form of the verb for most subjects in the simple present tense. Add s or es for

the third-person singular. Examples: He writes. She goes.

 To form negatives in the simple present, use do/does + not + [root verb] or contractions

like don’t or doesn’t. Examples: I don’t like coffee. He doesn’t watch TV.

SIMPLE PAST REGULAR VERBS
Simple past: Regular verbs

The simple past tense is one of the most common tenses in


English. Its form is the same with all subjects. It isusually
formed by asding ED. To the verb. This page will explain the
rules for forming the tense with regular verbs.
1. Forming the simple past tense
With most verbs, the simple past is created simply by addig

PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE
Prepositions of place desrcribe the position of a person or thing in relation to another
person or thing.

There are many prepositions of place but in this unit we are only going to learn the
general ones. (in, on, at)
How to use the preposition in?
Use “in” with cities, regions, countries, states, and counties.
 I live in portland which is a city in Oregon.
 She Works in Seattle which is in Kings County.

Use “in” with spaces that you can physically walk into, or place something into.
These could be inside biudings or outside as well.

 In a room / in a building. (indoors)


 In a garden/ in a park (outdoors)

Examples:

 Let’s meet in the gym after class.


 She’s out jogging with herfriends in the park.
 I’m going to see Tom in that building over there.
 I enjoy walking in the garden at dusk.

How to use prepositio “at”


Use at with places in a town, city or another community:

 At the bus stop/movies/shopping mall/park/ museum/ etc.


 Also with a specific time. (10:00, 11:00, 1:00) etc.

Examples:
 I’ll meet you at the bus stop.
 I saw Peter at the movies last night.
 I was at the shopping mall and decided I had to buy this sweater.
How to use preposition “on”

Use “on” with vertical or horizontal surfaces that you can lay something onto, or
attach something to:

 On the ceiling/ Wall/ floor/ table /etc.

Examples:
 I let the magazine on the table.
 Isn’t that a beautiful painting on the Wall?
 You have such lovely candles on the matelpiece.

What is a demonstrative adjective?

A demonstrative adjective is an adjective used to specifically describe the position of


something or someone in space or time. The most commonly used demonstrative
adjectives are this, that, these, and those.

We use this (singular) and these (plural) to refer to something that is here / near.

Examples:

 This is my car. (singular)


 These are our children. (plural)

We use that (singular) and those (plural) to refer to something that is there / far.

Examples:

 That is our house. (singular)


 Those are my shoes. (plural)
