Synopsis format for M. Pharm 3rd Semester
Master of Pharmacy
3rd Semester
(Applicable from NOV DEC 2019)
OBJECTIVE
A synopsis can be referred as a detailed and organized outline of proposed
thesis to be carried out by research scholars. The synopsis is to be made in
consultation with Supervisor. Synopsis serves to ensure that a researcher
identifies research gap, have a clear idea about proposed methods and outcome
expected from the proposed research. This will also act as a guide to take
further steps that a researcher needs to take to ensure that the objectives of
research are met.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Following guidelines are to be followed while formatting the synopsis
PROFORMA OF SYNOPSIS
Introduction
This section should contain brief background of the selected topic. The scholar
must introduce the topic, identify the research gap and state importance of
study in this section. It also must define the problem, rationality and novelty of
research work and how the problem stated earlier will be addressed by the
scholar during the course of research. It must clearly state the purpose of the
study
Review of Literature
This should include brief history and present status of the problem as evidenced
by documented literature on similar or closely related problem. The findings of
various investigators should be critically examined and interpreted in the light of
objectives of the proposed thesis problem. Relevant references should only be
cited by mentioning the last names of the authors and year of publication within
the parenthesis. In case of more than Two authors, only the last name of the first
author followed by et al. (Please do not put a dot after et since the full form of et
al. is et alli, i.e., and others) should be used.
The objectives, and there are usually more than one, are the specific steps you
will take to achieve your aim. This is where you make the project tangible by
saying how you are going to go about it.
Each research proposal should contain one overall aim describing the general
contribution that the research project makes to the subject area as well as one
or more specific objectives focusing on discrete tasks that will be achieved
during the research. The overall objective may be something that the study will
contribute towards but not solve/finish; the aim should not be a compilation of
the specific objectives.
References
It is highly advisable to use literature management software to arrange
references such as Mendeley, Endnote etc. Vancouver style which was further
developed and accepted by National Library of Medicine, USA is accepted.
