SUBJECT: Physics
Max. Marks: 70 Time Allowed: 3 hours
General Instructions:

1. This question paper contains 33 questions. All questions are compulsory.

2. This paper is divided into five sections: A, B, C, D, and E.

3. Section A: Questions 1 to 16 are Multiple Choice type questions. Each question


carries 1 mark.

4. Section B: Questions 17 to 21 are Very Short Answer type questions. Each


question carries 2 marks.

5. Section C: Questions 22 to 28 are Short Answer type questions. Each question


carries 3 marks.

6. Section D: Questions 29 and 30 are case study-based questions. Each question


carries 4 marks.

7. Section E: Questions 31 to 33 are Long Answer type questions. Each question


carries 5 marks.

8. There is no overall choice given in the question paper. However, an internal


choice has been provided in a few questions in all the Sections except

Calculate the electric field at a point 5 cm from the center of the shell.

21. Explain the working principle of an AC generator and how it generates alternating
current.

22. A current of 1.6 A flows through a wire when a potential difference of 1.0 V is
applied across it. The length and cross-sectional area of the wire are 1.0 m and
1.0*10^-7 m^2 respectively. Calculate:

- (a) Electric field across the wire

- (b) Current density

- (c) Average relaxation time *tau

23. Two resistors R1 = 4 ohm and R2 = 8 ohm are connected in series to a 12 V


battery. Calculate:

(a) The equivalent resistance of the series combination.

(b) The current flowing through the circuit.

(c) The voltage drop across each resistor.

24.A particle with charge q = 1 *10^-19 C, and mass m = 2 10^-19 kg enters a


uniform magnetic field of strength B = 0.2 T, with a velocity v = 3 10^5 m/s
perpendicular to the field lines.

i.Calculate the radius of the circular path followed by the particle in the
magnetic field.

ii .Determine the frequency of the particle’s motion in the magnetic field.


25. Discuss the factors affecting the capacitance of a capacitor.

26. A long, straight wire carries a current of I = 3A . Calculate the magnetic field at a
point that is d = 0.2 m from the wire.

27. State and explain Lenz’s law with an example. On what fundamental principle it’s
based on.

28. Explain the phenomenon of resonance in an LCR circuit and state the conditions
when resonance occurs in LCR circuit .What is the importance of resonance frequency?

Section D: Case Study-Based Questions (4 marks each)

29. Case Study 1:

A series AC circuit consists of a resistor R = 10 ohm , an inductor L = 0.1 H , and a


capacitor C = 10 microF. The circuit is connected to an AC source with an rms voltage
of Vrms = 20 V and an angular frequency w = 100 rad/s.

1.Calculate the total impedance Z of the circuit.

2.Determine the Irms value of current flowing through the circuit.

3.Find the phase angle (phi) between the voltage and the current in the circuit.

4.Compute the average power dissipated in the circuit.

30. Case Study 2:

A rectangular coil of wire with N turns, area A, and resistance R is placed in a uniform
magnetic field B. The plane of the coil is initially perpendicular to the magnetic field. The
coil is then rotated with a constant angular velocity \omega about an axis perpendicular
to the magnetic field. As the coil rotates, the magnetic flux through it changes, inducing
an electromotive force (EMF) .The expression for the induced EMF E(t) as function of
time t is given by:

E(t) = NAB/W sin(Wt )

where N is the number of turns, A is the area of the coil, B is the magnetic field,and W
is the angular velocity of rotation.

Questions:
1.Calculate the maximum value of the induced EMF in the coil. What physical quantity
does this maximum value depend on?

2.If the coil has 100 turns, an area of 0.1 m^2, and is placed in a magnetic field of 0.2 T,
rotating at an angular velocity(W) of 50 rad/s, find the maximum induced EMF.

3.At what time t during the first half of the cycle is the induced EMF zero?

4.If the resistance of the coil is 5 ohm, calculate the maximum current induced in the
coil. What is the relationship between the induced EMF and the induced current?

Section E: Long Answer Questions (5 marks each)

31. (a) Three point charges q1 = +2 C, q2 = -3 C, and q3= +4 C are placed at the
corners of an equilateral triangle of side length 20 cm. Calculate the

(i)net force acting on the charge q1and

(ii) electric field at the centroid of the equilateral triangle.

OR

(b) A charge of 6 C is given to a hollow metallic sphere of radius 0.2 m. Find the
potential at

(i) the surface and

(ii) the center of the sphere.

32. (a) Derive the expression for the capacitance C of a parallel plate capacitor with
plate area A , plate separation d , and dielectric constant \kappa of the medium
between the plates.

OR

(b) Derive the expression for the energy stored in a capacitor when it is charged to a
potential difference V .
33. (a)Derive the relation between current density J and the electric field E in a
conductor.

OR

(b) Derive the expression for mutual inductance between two long coaxial solenoids .
