Enhancement in Strength of Notaries

SHRI V.K.SREEKANDAN:

Will the Minister of LAW AND JUSTICE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has enhanced/ contemplates to


enhance/increase the number/strength of notaries in the country on the
demands/requests of many States;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken thereon, State-wise; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) and (b) : The maximum number of notaries to be appointed by the appropriate
Government i.e. Central Government or State Government or Union territories are
specified in the Schedule of the Notaries Rules,1956. On the request received from
Government of Uttar Pradesh, the quota for vacancies for such State has been
increased vide G.S.R. No. 746(E) dated 18th October, 2021.

Further vide G.S.R. no. 438(E) dated 10th June, 2022, the said Schedule has been
amended by the Central Government to increase the vacancies for Central Government
notaries for various States and Union territories.

(c) Does not arise.
