CASE METHOD ANALYSIS

Globe a leading telecommunication company in the Philippines launched Gcash, their

m-commerce service, which transformed a mobile phone into a wallet. Its main
objective is to serve the majority of Filipinos who lacked access to formal
banking services at the time.

This intends to give their subscribers access to a cashless method of facilitating money
remittance, donations, loan settlement, disbursement of salaries or commissions, and
payment of bills, products and services, with just a text message. It allows users to
maintain cash reserves in an electronic format accessible via their mobile phones.

1.0 TIME CONTEXT

Long time after the implementation of the cashless method, GCash launched its mobile
application in 2012 to shift from physical outlets to a digital cashless system. And later in
2017, GCash and its rival mobile wallet PayMaya, partnered with Facebook to offer its
services within Facebook Messenger to get higher reach of users and accessible
services in online ecosystem, however the partnership did not last due to changes
in Facebook's fintech strategy. This resulted to slow it the catch-up means of the
Gcash to the demands of the users.
