The Future of “Travel”?
Most of us travel each day. In theory, traveling is a wonderful experience. In
practice, however, there can be problems with taking a trip.
Cost is one issue. Vacations can be exorbitant, especially for people with
children. Another problem is time. In the modern world, many vacations are not
relaxing at all. And vacations can be surprisingly stressful with problems like lost
luggage, bad weather, large crowds at tourist destinations, or unfriendly staff at
restaurants.
Because of these problems, staycations have become popular. These are
vacations where people stay at home or at a local hotel. They enjoy activities and
pleasures nearby, such as reading a good book, learning about another place's
history, going for a walk, or eating out in places close to home. The cost is very low,
but knowing about a place is a poor alternative to going there.
Virtual reality may offer a high-tech way to see the world. A headset and
software take the traveler on a virtual trip. The traveler feels she is really in the place.
VR travel is a perfect solution: entertaining, cheap, and not stressful. But some people
still argue that nothing is as good as experiencing a real place in person.
