● It refers to an activity that you voluntarily participate in during your free


time.
● The word recreation means to recreate or to be refreshed.

● Recreation is classified into two: the indoor and outdoor activities that
refers to sports and exercise leading to a healthy lifestyle.

TYPES OF RECREATION
1. PASSIVE RECREATION – activities that are less physically active.
2. ACTIVE RECREATION – activities that involve vigorous physical
activity.
KINDS OF RECREATION
1. INDOOR RECREATION – activity that is done within the confines of a
structure or building.
- This is an activity that gives some healthy benefits, enjoyment and
relaxation in the comfort of your home. Badminton, Volleyball and
Dance are examples of indoor recreational activity.
2. OUTDOOR RECREATION – activity that is done outside the confines
of a structure or building.
- Outdoor activities are quite fun and it gives a lot of adventure and
experience.
- Like climbing in the mountains, staying beside the beaches and
doing some camping.
- That help you relaxed and feel the vibes of the place.
- The use of outdoor journeys for life-long play, enjoyment,
adventure, health and well-being, fitness and socialization.
- Outdoor Recreation skills are a tool to facilitate exploration of
natural environments.
Scope of Recreation of Indoor Activities
a. Games and Sports: chess, parlor games
b. Dance Activities: stop dance, trip to Jerusalem
c. Music Activities: singing, instrumental playing
d. Drama Activities: storytelling, comedy skits
e. Arts and Crafts: origami, pop- up cards
f. Hobby and Collecting Activities: cooking, dancing, stamp collections,
antique collection

2 Types of Outdoor Recreation Activity


a. Water Activities
1. Snorkeling – Involves observing the underwater depths with the aid
of a diving mask, a snorkel and, usually, swim fins. It generally takes
place in shallow water, where you can watch undersea life from the
surface of the water.
2. Canoeing – Is a sport or recreational activity which involves paddling
a canoe with a single-bladed paddle.
3. Scuba Diving -is a mode of underwater diving where the diver uses a
self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) which is
completely independent of surface supply, to breathe underwater.

b. Mountain Activities
1. Hiking - is an outdoor activity of walking in beautiful natural environments
on pre-charted paths called hiking trails. There are day hikes and
overnight hikes
2. Trekking - is a long journey be undertaken on foot in areas where there
are usually no means of transport available.
3. Camping - Is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home
in a shelter, such as a tent.
4. Orienteering – Is a group of sports that requires navigational skills using a
map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually
unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed
Orienteering as an outdoor activity it offers a lot of benefit:
● Conceptual Aspect (It increases your decision-making skills)

● Physical Aspect (It develops your cardiovascular endurance and


general fitness)
● Personal Aspect (It develops your self-confidence and reliance)

● Social Aspect (You will learn to work with other people)

● Environment Aspect (It creates appreciation the beauty of


environment)

picture and submit to your PE Teacher (NOTE: Student’s don’t have FB
messenger or Email)
