• Begin by handing out the title strip for the students to glue at the top of their
page.
• Together as a class, discuss what they think the title means, what does the I can
statement say, can they identify any words or subject material they may already
know about this.
• You may choose to find a short video to show the students to introduce them to
Lesson 1
the topic here.
• Together as a class, you will build the anchor chart together. Take a moment to
highlight any tier 3 vocabulary (subject specific vocabulary) that you may want to
add to your math bulletin board.
• Model an example question based on the skill being learned (This is the ‘I do it’
part).
• Begin the lesson by quickly reviewing yesterday’s material. Model solving a new
sample question on the board (I do it).
• As a class, answer a new question, modelling the skills being taught (this is the ‘We
do it together’ part). You may consider using hands-on manipulatives if possible.
Lesson 2 Some ideas could be modelling dough, white boards and markers, dice, etc.
• Repeat these steps until you feel confident challenging the students to answer a
question in a small group (this is the “You do it together”)
• End the lesson by challenging students to try answering a question on their own
(you do it alone) (again, I highly encourage you use manipulatives here first).
• Model solving a question using manipulatives first and transfer that knowledge to
written.
• From here, you can choose to have math stations set up that all focus on the topic
Lesson 3 being taught. Math games, math books, math by myself, digital math, etc. I have a
YouTube video highlighting how I run my math stations you can watch it HERE.
• Meet with any struggling students in a small group setting to help scaffold their
learning during math stations.
• Run math stations again, but this time make sure you take in some piece of
Lesson 4 assessment for this topic. This could be a worksheet, exit slip, assignment, digital
assignment, anecdotal notes or observations from small group setting.
