* This course requires the use of MindTap to complete assignments. Please makes sure to purchase the textbook package that comes with 6
months of MindTap access. I believe the bookstore at CSN sells the package together. Once you have purchased the package follow the directions
below to link your MindTap access to my course.
*For those students waiting on financial aid or requiring more time to be able to acquire the required textbook and access to MindTap,
CENGAGE (i.e., the publisher) offers a complimentary period of a few days of free access. This will allow you to complete the first set of
assignments. Without this material you will not be successful in the course.
Since my MindTap course will be linked to our CSN course within CANVAS (i.e. via LMS), please follow the steps below to link your MindTap Access
with my course. DO NOT USE THE INSTRUCTION IN THE PACKAGE AS IT WILL REQUIRE ME TO PROVIDE AN COURSE CODE THAT I DO NOT HAVE.
FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW INSTEAD:
1. Go to CSN CANVAS.
2. Select BIOL 121-1007.
3. Under the Introduction Module there is a link titled “You can also click here to connect to our course in MindTap” or you can also Click on
the “Chapter 1 Food Environment and Food Choices Quiz” under chapter 1 module. Both links will direct to our course in Cengage
MindTap.
4. You will be redirected to CENGAGE MindTap Sign Up.
5. You should see an option to register to my course using an already purchased access code.
6. Enter the purchased access code and finish the registration process. Since you accessed my MindTap course through CANVAS it bypasses
entering a COURSE CODE. Again, I don’t have a COURSE CODE to give you so make sure to follow the steps above. Make sure to acquire
the textbook and access to MindTap before the assignment due dates posted on the syllabus.

Requirements:
This Syllabus: A tentative lecture schedule is provided. Any changes in the lecture or exam schedule will be announced in class and in CANVAS. You
are responsible for turning in work by their due dates.
The instructor is NOT responsible for any problems/issues/virus/other computer irregularities regarding the student’s personal computer or
internet access. I recommend contacting Cengage customer service or CSN IT (i.e., Help Desk) department if you experience issues with any of
them.
On-line behavior: The Instructor is responsible for setting and maintaining class behavior appropriate to the discipline and method of teaching.
Students may not engage in activities that the instructor deems disruptive or counter-productive to the goals of the class.
Instructors have the right to remove offending students from class, which means I can revoke your CANVAS admittance to the course. Please be
considerate of other students and the instructor. Please notify the instructor of your concerns. I will be more than happy to listen and do anything
in my power to address your concerns.
Cheating, plagiarism, and other acts of academic dishonesty are held as serious offenses.
I am responsible for reporting acts of academic dishonesty to the Chair of Biological Sciences and the Student Conduct Officer. Serious penalties,
ranging from grade reductions to permanent expulsion from the class or college, may be imposed if you are dishonest.
Any written assignment plagiarized from any source will receive a 0 grade. On-line sharing of answers, assignments or exams is considered cheating
and will get you reported to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and a loss of all points for the assignment or exam.
Responses within MindTap have to be college level responses. I will deduct points for the lack of correct grammar and punctuations marks.
Please make sure your responses are clear and concise. You should be using the reports you create each week to guide your thinking through
the questions asked in the activities. Please make sure to look for sample responses examples vs. non examples posted within our CANVAS
course, to see how you can earn full points with these activities. Do not expect to earn full points to responses if they are answered in one
sentence or just in a couple of words. At the very least make sure to restate the questions, answer the question and apply any supporting detail
whenever applicable.
Grading:
Final grades will be assigned following the standard grading scale and point system found below:

requires at least a 3-day food entry, and these are the reports that will guide your responses in the

Cengage MindTap.
