Unit 2 Day 2 Name: ______________________ Period: _____ Date: _________

1. 21N.1.SL.TZ0.4

Dilara is designing a kite ABCD on a set of coordinate axes in which one unit
represents 10 cm.

The coordinates of A, B and C are (2, 0), (0, 4) and (4, 6) respectively. Point D lies
on the 𝑥𝑥-axis. [AC] is perpendicular to [BD]. This information is shown in the
following diagram.

(a) Find the gradient of the line through A and C.

[2]
(b) Write down the gradient of the line through B and D.

[1]

(c) Find the equation of the line through B and D. Give your answer in the form 𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 +
𝑏𝑏𝑏𝑏 + 𝑑𝑑 = 0, where 𝑎𝑎, 𝑏𝑏 and 𝑑𝑑 are integers.

[2]

(d) Write down the 𝑥𝑥-coordinate of point D.

2. 22M.1.SL.TZ1.4

Three towns, A, B and C are represented as

coordinates on a map, where the 𝑥𝑥 and 𝑦𝑦
axes represent the distances east and north
of an origin, respectively, measured in
kilometres.

Town A is located at (−6, −1) and town B is

located at (8, 6). A road runs along the
perpendicular bisector of [AB]. This
information is shown in the following diagram.

(a) Find the equation of the line that the road follows. [5]

(b) Town C is due north of town A and the road passes through town C. Find the 𝑦𝑦-
coordinate of town C. [2]
3. 21M.1.SL.TZ2.6

Two schools are represented by points

A(2, 20) and B(14, 24) on the graph below.
A road, represented by the line 𝑅𝑅 with
equation −𝑥𝑥 + 𝑦𝑦 = 4, passes near the
schools. An architect is asked to determine
the location of a new bus stop on the road
such that it is the same distance from the
two schools.

(a) Find the equation of the perpendicular bisector of [AB] . Give your equation in
the form 𝑦𝑦 = 𝑚𝑚𝑚𝑚 + 𝑐𝑐.

[5]
(b) Determine the coordinates of the point on 𝑅𝑅 where the bus stop should be
located.

[2]
4. 19N.2.SL.TZ0.T_2

The diagram shows the straight line 𝐿𝐿1 . Points A(−9, −1), M(−3, 2) and C are points
on 𝐿𝐿1 .

(a) Find the gradient of 𝐿𝐿1 . [2]

M is the midpoint of AC.

(b) Find the coordinates of point C. [2]

Line 𝐿𝐿2 is perpendicular to 𝐿𝐿1 and passes through point M.

(c) Find the equation of 𝐿𝐿2 . Give your answer in the form 𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 + 𝑏𝑏𝑏𝑏 + 𝑑𝑑 = 0, where
𝑎𝑎, 𝑏𝑏, 𝑑𝑑 ∈ ℤ.

[3]

The point N(𝑘𝑘, 4) is on 𝐿𝐿2 .

(d) Find the value of 𝑘𝑘.

[2]
(e) Find the distance between points M and N.

[2]

(f) Given that the length of AM is √45, find the area of triangle ANC.
