I. Give short answer for the following questions/3pt each/

1. A projectile is fired in such a way that its horizontal range is equal to three times its maximum

height. What is the angle of projection?------------------------------------------------------------

2. A body of mass 4kg having velocity 4m/s collides with another body of mass 6kg having velocity

2m/s in the same direction. If the collision is perfectly inelastic, then the common velocity after

collision will be ---------------------------------------------------------

3. Car traveling at an initial speed v slides a distance d to a halt after its brakes lock. Assuming that

the car’s initial speed is instead 2v at the moment the brakes lock, estimate the distance it slides.----

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. List at least three kinematic equations for an object that moves in a horizontal plane under a

constant linear acceleration.

5. A man cleaning a floor pulls a vacuum cleaner with a force of magnitude F = 50N at an angle of

30° with the horizontal. Calculate the work done by the force on the vacuum cleaner as the vacuum

cleaner is displaced 3m to the right.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

II. Work Out/show the necessary steps clearly/

6. A truck starts moving and covers 40m horizontal distance in a time of 10s while smoothly
slowing down to a final speed of 3m/s. Find
(a) Its initial speed/3pt/
(b) Its acceleration /3p/
(c) Its average speed /3pt/
7. A long jumper leaves the ground at an angle of 370 above the
horizontal with an initial speed of 15m/s. Determine
a) the total horizontal distance covered/3pt/
b) time to reach maximum height/3pt/
c) total time of flight/3pt/
d) the maximum height reached/3pt/

8. A block of mass m2 = 5kg on a rough, horizontal surface is connected to a ball of mass m1 = 4kg by
a lightweight cord over a lightweight, frictionless pulley as shown in Figure below. A force of
magnitude F = 60N at an angle with the horizontal is
applied to the block as shown, and the block slides to the right. The coefficient of kinetic friction
between the block and surface is . Determine the magnitude of
(a) The normal force/3pt/
(b) Frictional force/3pt/
(c) The acceleration of the two objects/3pt/

9. A force given by ⃗ acts on a 1kg mass moving on a frictionless surface. The

mass moves from x = 2.00 m to x = 6m.

(a) How much work is done by the force? /4pt/

(b) If the mass has a speed of 2.00 m/s at x = 2m, what is its speed at x = 6m? /4pt/

10. A bullet of mass 0.2kg is fired into a large block of wood of mass 10kg, which was
initially at rest & suspended by some light wire. The
bullet embeds in the block and entire system swings
through a height of 5m.
(A) What is the velocity of the entire system?/4pt/
(B) What would be the speed of the bullet?/3pt/
