Reading Passage: A Visit to the Animal Shelter

Hi Lily,
Yesterday, my class went on a field trip to the animal shelter. It was a great experience! The staff at the
shelter take care of animals that don’t have homes, like cats, dogs, rabbits, and even some birds. They help
the animals stay healthy and find new families to adopt them.
When we arrived, a staff member named Sarah showed us around. She told us about each type of animal
and how they look after them. I learned that they feed the animals twice a day and make sure they get
exercise and attention. The dogs have a large yard where they can run and play, and the cats have a special
room with lots of toys.
Sarah also explained how we can help the shelter. She said they always need extra food, blankets, and toys
for the animals. We can even volunteer there when we’re older! Before we left, we got to play with some of
the puppies and kittens. They were so cute and playful!
I hope we can visit the shelter together someday. It would be nice to see all those animals again and help
out.
Best wishes, Emma
