NOTE TO THE STUDENTS


OBJECTIVE OF THIS EXERCISE
 The main objectives of this exercise is two fold :
o To get a practical orientation on Location suitability based on your previous /
current visits
o To apply various critical parameters on which a Retail Location is selected

METHODOLOGY
 The students have the following options :
o Visit a store physically nearby, if possible
o IF NOT choose any Retail Showroom in the city where you come from or very
familiar with
o Any format of stores, such asDepartment Stores / Super Market / Hyper
Market / Mid –Size Kirana Stores / Retail Branded Stores in a Mall
 Since this exercise is about location viability, the students are required to attach a
photograph of the EXTERIOR ONLY ( Street view ) of the Retail store of your choice
 You may need to download the pictures using image search
 Images of the store interiors is NOT NECESSARY
 The students can choose to make or more visits according to their convenience if
they are planning a visit now
 OR write from their memory of earlier visits
 Reemember: THE OBJECTIVE IS ONLY TO EVALUATE THE SUITABILITY OF A SPECIFIC
STORE LOCATION ( PLEASE AVOID DATA NOT RELEVANT TO THIS TOPIC)
WHAT IS REQUIRED
NARRATIVE REPORT
1. The students are required to make a THREE (3) page (maximum) report on A-4 size.
2. PLEASE DO NOT EXCEED 3 PAGES OF NARRATIVE REPORT +1 TITLE PAGE + 1 PHOTO

3. The report is to be submitted in MS word using a maximum of font size 12 only
4. The font preferred is Verdana (other fonts are acceptable but try to stick to this)
5. A maximum of 3 photographs of the Exteriors are to be attached
6. The students should mention their names / roll numbers on the Header sheet
7. The Narrative report should contain:
a. Basic data of the location / area / city (obtained through secondary sources)
b. Your personal experience as a Retail customer in the store
c. Your experience should contain from the time you reach the store till you
come out after the cash counter / parking lot (if exclusively available)
d. You will write down your actual Purchase first-hand experience of any
product recently or the last purchase
e. You will mention all aspects of the location suitability from a (customer’s)
your personal experience point of view
8. In addition to the suitability, as Finance Students you will give your opinion on its
financial viability. (financial data may not be available hence not necessary)
9. All the parameters are outlined in the ppt already sent to you
10. Use the following Matrix at the end of your report to give indicative numerical values
for each of the criterion and arrive at a score.
11. Remember your experience (though virtual or from memory) should substantiate
the numerical values.
12. If in doubt on any point mentioned above, do let me know.
