1 INTRODUCTION
Dear Student
The purpose of this tutorial letter is to give you information on where to find feedback on
Assessment 10, as well as to release written Assessment 13.
2 FEEDBACK ON ASSESSMENT 10
Note that feedback on Assessment 10 will be released online on myUnisa via an
announcement. The feedback will also be available on the module site under the Feedback
on Assessments tool.
3 ASSESSMENT 13
3.2 Resources
3.2.1 Prescribed books
There are no prescribed books for this module. Refer to the CHL2601 study guide to
complete Assessment 13.

3.2.2 Recommended books
For additional information, you may also refer to the list of recommended books.
Abingdon, O. 2016. Children as readers in children’s literature: the power of texts and the
importance of reading. London: Routledge.
Evans, R, Joubert, I & Meier, C (eds). 2018. Introducing children’s literature: a guide to the
South African classroom. Pretoria: Van Schaik.
Gopalakrishnan, A. 2011. Multicultural children’s literature: a critical issues approach.
Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage.
Lynch-Brown, C. 2014. Essentials of children’s literature. New York: Pearson.
Martinez, MG. 2017. Thinking and learning through children’s literature. Maryland: Rowman
& Littlefield.
Saccardi, M. 2014. Creativity and children’s literature. California: ABC-Clio.
White, J. 2014. Using children’s literature to teach problem solving in Math: addressing the
common core in K-2. London: Routledge.
Please ensure that you submit the correct assessment. You may only re-submit twice,
where after the portal will block you from making any further attempts. To ensure you find
and upload the correct assessment, always save an assessment as your student number,
surname, module name and assessment number (e.g. 1237654 CHL2601 Ass 13).
Make sure you understand the wording of the assessment correctly. Do not deliberately
interpret the assessment incorrectly to make it easier to answer.
Work systematically. Work out a scheme before you start answering the question. The first
page of your submission should have a cover page with your name and student number, as
well as the relevant assessment information.
In the case of handwritten assessments, use the official answer pads and assignment
covers. Write on one side of the paper only and ensure that the various pages are attached
in the correct order. Scan and submit as a single PDF document.
Ensure that you familiarise yourself with the following general rules of submission:
• Upload your answer file in a single PDF file (answer files must not be password
protected or uploaded as “read-only” files).
• NO e-mailed submissions will be accepted.
• You are advised to preview your submission to ensure legibility and that the correct
answer file has been uploaded.

CHL2601/104/0/2022
• You are allowed to resubmit your answer file should your initial submission be
unsatisfactory. Resubmissions can however only be made before the final
submission date.
• Incorrect file format and uncollated answer files will not be considered. Incorrect
answer files and/or submissions made on unofficial platforms will not be marked and
you will not be granted the opportunity to resubmit your assignment.
• The mark awarded for an incomplete submission will be the final mark. You will not
be granted the opportunity to resubmit your assignment.
• The mark awarded for an illegible scanned submission will be the final mark. You will
not be granted the opportunity to resubmit your assignment.
3.4 Plagiarism
I want to remind you that it is unethical (and unacceptable) to hand in assessments that are
not your own work and whenever the University becomes aware of such malpractices, it will
take stern measures against the student concerned. When doing assessments, you must
submit your own ideas, in your own words, sometimes interspersing relevant short
quotations that are properly referenced. Also note that, although you may work together
with other students when preparing assessments, each of you must submit your own
individual assignment. It is unacceptable for students to submit identical
assessments on the basis that they worked together. That is regarded as copying (a
form of plagiarism) and none of these assessments will be marked. Furthermore, you
may be penalised or subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the University.
3.5 Assessment 13
Assessment 13 is a written assessment and contributes 25% towards your promotion mark.

ADDENDUM A
1. I know that plagiarism means taking and using the ideas, writings, works or
inventions of another as if they were one’s own. I know that plagiarism not only
includes verbatim copying, but also the extensive use of another person’s ideas

or any attempt to cheat the plagiarism-checking system (Turnitin). I know that
plagiarism covers the use of material found in textual sources and from the internet.
2. I acknowledge and understand that plagiarism is wrong.
3. I understand that my assignment answers must be referenced accurately.
4. This assignment is my own work. I acknowledge that copying someone else’s work,

constitutes a form of plagiarism.

or her own work and will not allow it in future.
