PEL203: INTERMEDIATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to:


• review longer pieces of discourse independently
• identify effective techniques to overcome language barriers for professional growth
• interpret a text for the benefit of peers orally or in writing
• employ grammatical and lexical acumen in order to gain advanced level language
competence
• redraft various written documents with structural precision
• develop arguments, stance and conclusion in formal and informal settings

Language Skills

Listening: listening for job interview questions, understanding intonation and sentence rhythm,
understanding details and answering questions, choosing the best responses, listening stories and
completing sentences, listening and practicing the groups of words, listening to the documentaries
and answering the questions, understanding difference in pronunciation, listening to extract the
main idea, answering the questions, identifying sentences, listening and responding to different
views

Speaking: describing pictures, presenting views and answering questions using conditionals,
presenting stories, irregular past forms, sentence rhythm, syllables and word stress, organizing
views, participating in formal discussions, presenting information and giving details, making a
short conversation, summarizing concepts, presenting ideas and opinions

Reading: skimming and scanning to find information, understanding point of view, using one’s
knowledge to predict content, completing sentences, gathering specific information and data

Writing: writing short stories, writing a blog post, writing for and against, describing
photos, writing an article to express your opinion

ASSOCIATED LANGUAGE SKILLS

Grammar: question formation, auxiliary verbs, past tense, position of adverbs and adverbial
phrases, future tense, zero and first conditionals, unreal conditionals, wish for present future
past simple, used to, be used to, get used to, gerunds and infinitives, past models, verbs of
the senses, passive voice, reporting verbs, quantifiers and articles

Vocabulary: vocabulary related to styles of clothing, travel, adverbs and adverbial phrases,
