the new lesson
A. What particular unit do we use in measuring the length, width and
the height?
-Cubic meter and cubic centimeter

What instrument do we used in measuring length, width and

height?
-Non-Standard Unit and Standard Unit

Teacher shows real object and let the pupils identify what unit of
measure and instrument to be used.

B. Establishing a purpose
for the lesson Teacher shows to the Class empty box

Ask the following questions to the pupils:

 Who among you has empty boxes at home like this?
 What did you do to these empty boxes?
 Is there any way to make these boxes useful?
-Teacher let the pupils measure the dimension of the box using measuring tools.

Volume – is the amount of space a solid figure occupies.

A Solid figure is a three-dimensional shape which has a length, width and
Height

Present this situation in the class

C. Presenting examples /
instances of the lesson

The teacher will show to the class how to get the volume of a prism by showing the
formula V = L x W x H
 Where V is the VOLUME, L is LENGTH, W is WIDTH and H is the
HEIGHT and it is express in cubic units.
Find out the volume of Chinita’s cube.

new skills #1 cube. Which is bigger?
3. How do you find the volume of a
5 cm prism?
5 cm

E. Discussing new Group Activity

concepts and Practicing Present the Rubrics to the Class.
new skills #2

Divide the class into four groups.

Each Group will be given real object to measure and find the volume of the object.
Each member of the group will be assigned as:
Recorder: to record all important information.
Measurer: Double checks all measurements and calculations.
Reporter: Shares all pertinent information with the class.
 Each group will receive a copy of the problem, a one-fourth sheet manila paper
and a marker.
 The outputs should be posted to be used during the presentation.
 After all the groups have finished, ask a member of the group to report their
output.
 After the presentation of the groups,
ask: How did you find the activity?
Did you get the same value for the volume of the figure?

F. Developing mastery Fill Me

(Leads to Formative Teacher calls some pupils to fill in the missing data to complete the table.
Assessment 3) Find the volume of each solid figure given its dimension.
